Hi Guys
I have been looking for powered speakers and found the JBL PRX's to be off the chain and they do not break the bank balance, i am still in the process of getting a sub to compliment them, on my many trips to audio stores i ahve come across these three brands, all have wonderfull speakers and subs, which one do you think will compliment with my PRX612. I am talking about the 15' sub.
Cheers

Yamaha has Dsr series, these blow away the Jbls in my opinion and can keep up with a double priced cabinet like the evzx5a which i own and like the yamahas dsr 115 much better, the dsr subs on the other hand are just ok and i reccomend yorkville powered cabinets for subs ls800p or 2 jbl prx 618 xlfs, to equal 1 ls800p
Sincerely DJ JAMM
get the DSR's

Hi Jam, very interested in your post since I also have the EV zxa5 tops... So the Yamaha's can really keep up with them in terms of volume and sound quality?
What subs do you use with your EVs? I just got one jbl prx618-xlf and it's sounding pretty good but I'm not sure it's the best sounding sub ever- although plenty good enough for what I need! :-)

P.s. sorry to hijack the thread a bit! :-) the jbl sub I've got is a good buy Ogked, I'd say, since you've got jbl tops it makes sense and I really like it... Very lightweight too (for the size and the noise it makes!). But I bet there are other subs that might sneak past it with volume or sound quality. The QSC kw181 was very nearly what I got but the weight was the deciding factor for me. :-)

Hey Andy , I use 2 yorkville ls800p they can keep up with evs , I just cant get over how good the yamaha DSR's Sound Not the DXRs... different ballgame there .... I also have 2 jbl 618xlf subs and two of them seem to put out same bass as one of the yorkvilles. After having the yorkvilles I have yet to find a powered subwoofer in the price range of the yorkies that can compete...
Hope this helps all

Thanks for the info! We don't have Yorkville in the UK, but that's useful info all the same!

I went to guitar center today to check out the Yamaha Dxr 15 inch speakers and the JBl Prx615 sounds better. When you crank the speakers separate, you will notice that on the Yamaha, the woofer starts to get distorted at a high volume. The Jbl Prx 615 sounds more solid cranked and its not distorted. The Yamaha has more inputs but, i only care about sound quality..

I almost bought the Yahama's when I bought my new tops and subs last year. After about 20 trips to different Guitar Centers, Sam Ash, and a couple others I finally decided on the EV's (Live X ELX115 and ELX118's). I know many will debate the JBL's over the EV's but to me the sound was much better out of the EV's ONCE they were connected to a Crossover/DriveRack.
The JBL's are not as harsh out of the box but once you do a bit of sound tweaking the EV's win (IMO). They are loud, they are crystal clear, and the subs kick! I would not trade them for either the JBL's or the Yahama's at this point.

For the Ev's to sound good, You have to use external processing. The Sound from the Ev's are flat.. Its just Raw sound with no processing. I heard The Jbl Prx 615m & The Ev's side by side and i didnt like the sound from the Ev's. The price was very good at 550 each but, that didnt convince me to buy them. I ended up with the Jbls and i am very satisfied. I also owned the QSC K12's and sold them because they dont push 1000 watts. You will find yourslef asking for more volume and you are already at the max. The a really good sub other than Yorkville is The QSC KW181.. It really kicks and doesnt get distorted like some subs at a very high volume. What makes it nicer is the wheels..

i've tried many different powered speakers in the past few years ev's, new type jbl eon's, qsc k series & to be honest if you can get your head around the brand name the BEHRINGER B815NEO speakers are the best (in my humble opion !)
@ only 19kg, 800watt rms & only €450 there hard to beat !
