Topic: Strip Club DJs

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am a DJ who worked in 8 gentlemen clubs in the UK, getting paid enough to warrant working stupid hours and getting spoken to like rubbish. The dancers are nasty to say the least but I got on with most of them. The music they wanted me to play was terrible but the bosses made it perfectly clear that the dancers came first and had to make them happy.

This year I have lost work in 5 clubs out of the 8 clubs I worked in, the owners decided to buy in new software called coverjock. I can't believe I've been replaced by an automated DJ. What is this world coming to? I think the idea just can't work!

Are there any other strip club DJs out there who are in the same boat as myself?

Its not like you were mixing anyways, you were just a live jukebox. That software or even VDJ for that matter can do what you were doin......... If you werent bring anything different to the table I can see why they did it.

Yeah it sucks but thats how it goes sometimes, Good Luck

I used to mix some great tunes on the weekends but then when the dancers were on stage they wanted their rubbish so it made it nearly impossible. I see what you're saying about doing nothing special but I used to be entertaining on the mic and interact with the customers, giving the dancers really good introductions and plugging events.

I used to do some brilliant stage shows for the punters and announce 241 offers when the managers wanted me to, I must admit though at 4 in the morning I didn't reallt want to get on the mic and certainly wasn't as enthusiastic as I was earlier in the night. From what I've heard from the old staff, the coverjock (rubbish) software does everything I used to do as well as announcements and without any extra staff - I can't believe it.

I'm just annoyed about being replaced by a computer system.

Technology has a habit of doing this. How many bars had DJ's 15 years ago and now they are happy with a Rolec?

Strip clubs are usually very poorly run and the managers look for any way to save money. I have a couple of friends who have worked in strip clubs in my city and what they were paid for the hours was derisory to say the least.

This is just the way things go unfortunately.

Wow a post from an unlicensed user about some kind of automated software and worked at 8 clubs (their are only 7 days in the week). Obviously this is an advertising ploy from the makers of the software.

James - this is an open forum. The user has decided to post about his experience and asked if anyone is in a similar situation. He did not claim that he works in all 8 clubs on a weekly basis. On the other hand, it is quite plausible to work in 8 different venues 7 days a week, especially in this area of entertainment as most of these places operate 12 to 14 hours per day.

It is true that he is a non-licensed user but that doesn't necessarily mean that he hasn't purchased the software. In the future, please do not pass judgement on fellow users based on their status, as they have just as much right to be here as you do. The forums are here to help everyone and are supposed to be friendly and helpful.

G'day James,

I worked part time in these clubs and have a day job. My days in the clubs were spread over 2 weeks therefore me giving 14 days between all the clubs, not 7 days mate, I covered their resident DJs in the clubs to give them a well deserved break.

I use a product called DRS 2006 when I'm DJ'ing in the clubs, I certainly have nothing to do with this new product that's come out, I hate it!! I was looking at Virutal DJ as I know loads of my fellow DJ mates are using it and love it.

Thanks Superaceman!

Maybe they do things a little different over there. I'm spinning in a Gentleman's Club right now, and I can tell you right now, I am in charge of the music. The dancers have a mandatory tip out, and that is the same if you are a shitty DJ. However, I pride myself on working harder, because the minimum is not good enough for me. Trust me, I am taken care of, and I do not play any shitty music. We do not play a lot of Hip Hop or R&B, and these are the favorites, but it's boring. This is an upscale, high energy club. I have been doing Strip Clubs for 26 years, so I know what works. What sets me apart from the other DJs in this club, is I am not trying to be like anybody else. I am all video, and stay from that all instrumental house music. Some times I come in here, and it sounds like the same song all night. Women love vocals. I have a great voice, and do not talk over vocals. One thing I learned early, even if there is only one guy in here, I am putting on a show. He paid the same ridiculous price for that beer, no matter how many people are in here. Yes, they could bring in software as a subtitute for me, but it won't replace me. There is a difference.

++++++++++++I'm just annoyed about being replaced by a computer system.++++++++++++++++++++++

And me I'm annoyed about being replaced by some DJ from a very poor european country, playing lousy music (see above: the -nearly- all instrumental house music wich sounds the same after 10 minutes and is hammering ur brain after 2 hours -but still 6 to 7 hours to go ..........) and only asking for the whole night what i need to ask for 1 hour ;-(((

And more sad to me: the longer he is doing my job now, the more customers and girls get used to the shitty music (i made the club full -now he has a large customer base because of this-, in the beginning customers and girls kept terrorizing the owner about the shitty DJ and music. but because the owner sticks to his decission, the girls need to take it like it is............ and cause the guys are coming for the girls................ u get the idea ;-) )

Best Regards

Even with a digital Jukebox, the box does not do the same quality of job as a live MC IMHO!

You're right, but this is an old post so I'm going to close it. A fresh conversation can always be started.
