Hi all,
If my question seems too naive then please do bear with me.
1. I intend to mix using virtual DJ only (no external mixer)
2. My laptop's sound card is not good so I plan to buy a good external soundcard....(Presonus Firebox is one such sound card 3. http://www.presonus.com/media/diagrams/04_FIREBOXhookupbig.jpg)
4. I intent to play the music (a home dj) in my garage for small parties for dancing
5. I would like to keep the setup simple.
Question - Will the laptop->external soundcard->active speakers work?
If yes, then I am can set that up and mix my music through Virtual DJ. Also, Any recommendations on decent active speakers?
Thank you for your time and patience!!
Best
MJ

In short: yes it will work
One of my setups consist of a laptop, virtual dj, a NI DJ2 external soundcard and two active Mackie speakers
I normally add a midi-controller to the setup for better control, and a mini-mixer between the soundcard and the spearkes for easy analogue mastervolume control and general eq, and maybe an active sub for the bass, but it's not necessary for the sound setup to work
There are a few topics on the forum regarding which active speakers to choose with lots of good ideas, so you can probably get help there
Best regards
Klaus

Best advice instead of an external sound card is a dj console of some sort, most come with Virtual Dj and can get you a decent discount on Pro when you decide you want to upgrade.
This will give you control over the volume and eq's at your finger tips.
Look for one that has 1/4" outputs to complete connections without adapters if possible.
Numark has excellent entry level options as does Hercules.

A control device with a built in sound card is going to help you get better faster and in the long run save you some money.
Don't buy used devices as you will not be able to register the serial for free updates and other benefits that come with the license.

An external multi-channel sound card such as Presonus Firebox will not work with Home FREE.
Home FREE does not support using multi-channel external sound cards and only supports limited sound configurations - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Pre-listen%20using%20headphones%20in%20VirtualDJ%20Home%20FREE%20or%20Broadcaster.html
To use an external sound card like that, you would need to purchase either VirtualDJ Basic or the full Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
As suggested above, purchasing a DJ console with a built-in sound card and VirtualDJ LE/Console Edition included would be your best option.

Oh. I didn't notice you haven't yet purchased VDJ. The free version won't work for your purpose

It won't work as you think. Numarks NDX-200 has no USB/MIDI support.
Your Options:
Use TC with your NDX-200 and an external multichannel soundcard such as NI Audio 4DJ, NI Audio 8DJ (both sold out), NI Traktor Audio 6, NI Traktor Audio 10 or similar. You will need Virtual DJ PRO FULL for that.
Buy and register Virtual DJ PRO FULL to have access to all downloads and updates from this site.
Only with Virtual DJ PRO FULL you will have full access to MIDI and TC ability.
If you own a LE-Version you can use your controller with that it came with.
@Tcpersaud: Please, don't hijack other threads for any other issues.

there is a way to jerry rig anything as you can take a head phone jack to rca to a double rca female then to rca to xlr to a line in on the speakers.. but its going to be limited to what you can do..

Please don't post the same message more than once and as advised in your other post on this same subject, please don't hijack existing topics that aren't related to your question. This topic is about connecting a laptop & external sound card directly to an active speaker system.
