I am running VDJ 7 on a Lenovo C100 laptop running Windows 7. All of my music files are on a 1.5TB external drive.
The problem that I have is that VDJ is not by default using the music file tags.
Some it is reading fine, but a large number it isn't and it appears to be using the fileame instead.
If I select all the tracks on a specific album I can right click and bulk request it to read the tags, which it does without problem and for the rest of my session the tracks are all properly tagged.
If I close down and restart VDJ, however, the tagging information is again not read properly and I am back to "square1".
What can I do to solve this problem?

Are these all MP3 files, or some other format?
Also, once you've added your songs to the database and scanned them, that info stays in the database and there is no need to do the whole thing again when you restart VDJ.
Sounds to me as if you either haven't created a database or it's not being saved for some reason.
What format is the external drive?

I am having similar problem with my VDJ 7 on a Dell laptop with tracks on 500GB ext HD.
Some files appear not be read for the database so when I search (using keywords) certain tracks do no appear in the results pane. If I then navigate through th e folders to the album and use the 'Add to Search DB' the tracks will appear on a ny subsequent search in that session. However if I close session and restart, try the search again the tracks are missing again.
This has just started happenning in last few days, until now all has been great. I added some new albums last weekend and now have 17995 tracks (if the data base count is correct - is this a problem?) Most are mp3, but some .wav and and .m4a also. Same files seem to keep 'disappearing' each time and they are not the latest added.
Not sure how many files affected as I only find out if one has 'gone' if I am looking for it!!

Well there's a problem straight away.
MP3 files store info (title, artist etc.) in tags, which VDJ reads when it creates a database.
WAV files don't have tags.
Best thing to do is: Make sure all your MP3 files have info in their tags, then convert your WAV files to MP3 too, and tag those.
The more info you have in your tags, the easier and faster you can find stuff when you search the VDJ database.

Providing that you name your .WAV files correctly, the artist and title will be picked up from the file name.

My drive is formatted in NTFS and, with the exception of about 12 flac files, the rest are mp3 with a few m4a.
I have just started up Virtual dj this morning and everything is catalogued exactly as it should be.....bizarre.
I'll monitor the situation and see how it goes.
