Topic: Recording in Audacity while broadcasting using a Hercules RMX

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi,

I present a weekly online radio show using VirtualDJ, a Macbook Pro and a Hercules RMX. I want to record these mixes so I can podcast them. I have downloaded Audacity for Mac and am looking for some direction/help.

Much Appreciated.

Anyone?

just throwing around an idea as i have never attempted it, but you might be able to route the audio from vdj to audacity using jack (it;s a virtual audio cable between different audio software) , otherwise you may have to set up a master out in advanced config to use your "primary sound driver" then record that source in audacity

Hi Ben, I am in a similar situation.

I use Hercules RMX and MacBookPro13 and also I do a weekly show for an online radio.

If you get that problem solved will you please post your answer? I'd love to record my shows live.

Also, have you figured out how to make the mic sound good on the broadcast?

Hi mate,

Yeah I haven't got this sorted yet. will look into the above suggestion but would like to use this Audacity software. I feel like I'm on the cusp of cracking it but don't really understand sound card setttings.

I can help you with the microphone issue tho. I had to purchase a small mixer (Behringer Xenyx 802). I connect my mic (Shure pg58) to the it. I have one set of RCA's (Red & White, or Red & Grey in my case) going from the Output in the back of the Hercules to the mixer. I have another set of RCA's going from the Input on the Hercules going to the mixer.

When I speak through the mic I press the Source 2 button on the Hercules. You can only speak over beats when the music is coming from the left hand side turntable.

See how ya go.

Hi you can go two ways ;-)

1.0) Connect your RMX Master Output (1&2) with your RMX Input 1 via cinch.
You can use two Y-cable to split the outputs. One to the speakers (white/red) and one (white/red) to the RMX inputs ;-)
1.1) Open VDJ and go to VDJ Config - Soundcard
1.2) Select at Output- > Advanced Config
1.3) Master -> RMX - Output 1&2
Headphone -> RMX - Output 3&4
Record Loopback - RMX - Input 1&2
1.4) Select inside Audacity as Input the RMX soundcard (1&2)

OR

1.0) Connect your RMX Master Output (1&2) with your Mac Soundcard LINEIN via cinch.
