Topic: Streaming With Virtual 7 and Breakaway Broadcaster - tag update issues

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am trying to find out if there is a way to get the tag info direct from virtual 7 and set it up in a HTM or preferrably text format. What we have athe the moment is s multi stream system running both Sam BC and virtual 7 with the Breakaway Broadcast or Live processor. This uses Edcast to set up the stream and uses a text setup to feed the tag info. Works perfectly with Sam during the times we are not live but quite frankly, Sam sucks live and its not controller friendly. Unfortunately sam does a better job at playlist automation though in walkaway mode, and virtual is much better live and sounds better.

This system is working perfectly thanks to the multi pipeline Breakaway system with the only problem being the tags in virtual. What we are using is a quad core machine with 16 gb of ram and a multi screen desktop, and an outboard mixer as we have the need for multiple mics, especially during the live shows. there are 3 asio cards in the system and all of this runs at near zero latency just fine. Sam is on one mixer input and virtual on the other. the output of the mixer is fed to the second asio card which drives the stream. the 3rd card is used for all cuing and normal computer audio.

the htm tag feed from sam is converted to a text driven feed that edcast uses to drive the streams. i need to be able to pick up the artist title info from within the virtual system somewhere. is there a regedit or port or some way to access this?

anyone with any info at all would be appriciated

edit: to claify, unfortunately both sam and virtual have two problems in common. the mic input lag is insane no matter what card you use, and neither of them will support more than one stream. with this combination we are able to feed as many different streams in different formats as we want so we are sending streams in mp3, aac, and ogg for icecast all from the breakaway system and edcast. the input from the mixer runs at 4us in asio and thats nearly real time-- you cannot hear an audible lag in this system when on the mic. so neither sam or virtual are direct to the stream. nice thing about sam is you can configure metadata anyway you want - i need to be able to do that with virtual or find something comparable that will but im a virtual user and so are my employees-- we all hate sam except for automation ability-- it does that well, but since we all run pcdj and atomix products when we do live gigs, it would be nice if this could be done in virtual with the 4 player screen and two outboards we use here.

Update -something i just thought of

edcast has a way to update from a url......our company has a server - could i set up a dummy stream to run from VDJ just to capture the meta? and if so does anyone have a clue how to do this - i realize that this may cause a slight delay in the meta update

this way we wont have to try to do a hack on the virtual software

im thinking that if i set this up with a dummy url and broadcast into a dead port, and leave the port blocked i could pick it back up within the system from the url - say http://mylocowhatever.loc and create a bogus ip with a blocked port.........

hhhmmm - will try this and update later

Update

I found a simple non hack way to do this
step 1- download the original shoutcast dnas ver 1.98 install and configure accordinlgy with a max of2 or 3 listeners

step 2 - set it up to run with virtual 7 pro in normal mode as described here in the forums

step 3 - install (and buy) winamp pro, set it to monitor the stream and mute the audio to prevent a feedback loop

step 4 - open the edcast edit window - select from the "grab metadata from window title" click the "find Window" button and look for winamp plus whatever is playing in the dropdown, select that and assign it by doublclicking.

in the next box truncate everything after and including this string enter "space-spaceWinamp" not the word space, use the space bar please.

in the bottom box type in 1.

you now have meta updates and your stream title without any registry hacks or other hacks to virtual pro using edcast and breakaway broadcast or breakaway live

edit:afterthought: for those of you using this in combination with sambc like we are, remember, when you go back to sam to shut down winamp and the shoutcast 1.98 server and go back into edcast and uncheck the grab meta from window and go back to the normal sambc setup as described in the breakaway forums. (get meta from the file you created in htm setup-a simple box check)

now you can easily use both and get all with great processed sound for web or broadcasting - we do both here....;-)

But THIS SHOULD BE A CONFIG FEATURE IN FUTURE VERSIONS OF VIRTUAL PRO - those of us using atomix software in pro streaming applications should have a configurable metadata options both for broadcast streaming and also better options for the video display while running in video mode at clubs.

for as much as this software costs it should be more easily configurable and in this day and age should have this as a standard feature.

This is not a bump, its an issue.....

So live chat is not working and I cannot get past the front desk to a technician.

I work for someone who owns 10 licenses of pro7 but have no access to anything cause i am listed as a non licensed user and cannot readily access the info without 20 questions from my superiors.

In the meantime i am still trying to fix this issue without the workaround i'm currently using.

does anyone know of an app that will list whatever is playing anywhere in windows whether its in sambc, virtual, windows media or whatever? like a shell related app that displays on the desktop? that might be the easiest fix here.

cause i am not getting anywhere in tech support or here right now. this is something that should be an easy thing to find or create-- transferring metatags to another app should be user configurable especially since its only a "now playing" issue - could be sent http, ftp or even text for that matter

if anyone has ideas I am all ears
