Topic: Pricing Packages

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Need some help with how you guys put together your packages. I know the pricing depends on local market, I'm good with that. I want to put together packages for booking but not sure on the best way to do it.

Standard Package - 4 hours of DJ Services, Premium sound system
Plus Package - 4 hours of DJ Services, Premium Sound system, 3 Party Dance lights
Premium Package - Up to 6 hours, Premium sound system, Full Lighting and effects with fog

Additional Items:
Up Lighting
Photo CD of Event (Up to 250 Pictures)

This is what I am thinking about, but not sure. Any guidance is greatly appreciated!!

Don't do packages. Charge a flat per hour rate. You can either include the deposit or, make it an additional cost. I would have two separate prices for weddings and a second for parties....

An hourly rate? Then you have to make sure that they book you for a minimum or 4 hours which to me is charging by the night!

Here is my .02c...3 hours flat and if they want to go longer do $100 minimum. That's kinda been the "package" for the last 15 years. This does not include any lighting nor video...strictly audio. Sometimes a small room doesn't need subs so 2 tops is plenty. Client still pays the same flat rate for a 3hr job than a client who was at a larger venue that had subs. This way everyone across the board pays the same.

As far as different rate structures...yeah weddings are more involved than the usual set up and play so markup the rate since you are doing more work. Schools, you may want to consider a discount for repeat business.

For mobile gigs I also charge a flat rate for up to 5hrs. lights included. No packages. No extra bells and whistle charge. No negotiations take it or leave it. It is even posted on my website.
For club gigs I charge an hourly rate, or if I am helping promote the club, I work out a percentage of bar sales and/or 50/50 of cover.

Thanks everyone for your input and help on this, its very beneficial!

hourly rate, 4 hr minimum and stick to a standard setup, in previous threads ppl have said karaoke doesn't pay but I will say that if you are good at karaoke or dj'ing and word gets round you can charge a price you think is fair (I charge more than the agent I have done some show for and I get it) it comes down to being confident in what you are capable of but not arrogant.

here in australia we need licenses to go digital so I factor that in with an equipment hire cost (if a venue has an in-house system they pay less)

I find there are always people out there willing to work for less but in the end just stick to your guns otherwise people will expect to always pay you less.....

long story short, set your price and stick to it some will say no but many will say yes
