Topic: How many here are Club DJ's, Mobile DJ's or Both? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I'm curious.

I started DJ'ing using 1200's and vinyls in the late 80's. Hung it up for a bit in early 00's and just got back into it and embracing this digital age. My first software was Traktor and still use to this day. However, since getting my Denon DNS3700, I have switched primarily to VDJ.

Here is where my curiosity comes in. It seems, at least in the clubs around the Dallas, TX area, that VDJ is frowned upon and looked at as a beginner/bedroom DJ software and not a full pro software. I have had DJ's, look at it when I am doing my set and say, I can't believe you use that. I still go on with me set and they seem to get over it after a while. Specially after seeing the dance floor packed. Serato seems to be the club dj's choice of software around here, and seeing most pro touring DJ's use it as well. Next would be Traktor.

So I am curious to find out, how many other working club dj's out there use VDJ. How many are mobile DJ's and how many do both.

My perception is that VDJ is big in the mobile dj world, not so much in the clubs. Is this true?

Why does it matter??? If VDJ works for you who cares what other people think. From my own experience the only people who care what you use are other DJs..........me I use both Serato and VDJ. I only use serato if there are rotating djs if not then its Virtualdj only. I could give a shit less what others think. And you could say I'm a mobile/club dj. We throw hip hop shows at different clubs so were always moving. If it means anything to you my group is opening for Ben Harper and CeeLo Green and ill be using VDJ.

The only people that matter are the club owners and the people on Tue dance floor.....

You'll see a lot of similar questions like this one, yet I add my two cents again.

The only ones who'll worry about your software are other DJ's! Your crowd on the other hand want to dance, so screw what another DJ thinks! Too many DJ's bitching and moaning about what software you use, instead of giving you props for keeping the dance floor packed and the party jamming!!! Besides, the people hire you, hire you because of your skills, not your software.

People always wonder why I have security in front of my booth and it is because I don't need the BS and I'm not going to jail for dumping someone in a garbage can stuffed in a plastic bag over some software! Then who feeds my kids?

You happy with VDJ, use it bro! I got nearly 3 decades in this industry and no matter what I use, I get the same results; a happy crowd! I'm sure you get the same results! I used all the so called professional DJ softwares and VDJ to stands head & shoulders above the rest! Be sides, most of the complainers can't even mix Kool aid and water, let alone mix!

DO YOU BRO!

BIG UPS,

Sorry but not wanting to shoot this post down, as you say you are new to the forums so you would have missed the hundreds of similar posts on this same subject and if you are around long enough the thousands that will be in the future.

Basically, never mind the merits of using one or the other, I'm happy with VDJ and couldn't give a rats arse what someone else is using, use what your happy with and sod what anyone else thinks.

Not really too concerned about the other DJ's. Like I said I go on with my set and that seems to shut em up.
I've familiarized myself with Serato and Trakto as well just in those cases when I have to tag team the night with another DJ and there is no room in the booth for me to bring my own set up. Very rare now since I got a MC6000.

I was just really curious as to how wide spread VDJ is to club DJ's. My involvement is based in the Dallas area. so I wanted to post here to see a bigger sample of DJ audience. Hence the question.

Club DJ and proud to use VDJ ..... even though I'm the only person who does .......

both!

I DJ in 2 clubs (1 in Baton Rouge bi-weekly and 1 in New Orleans 3 nights a week), current Billboard Club Chart reporter, former Sirius Satellite Radio mixshow dj for 3-4 years, and have used VDJ since January 2007!

Currently a mobile DJ although I have used VDJ in the clubs.

I have to say if I worked in a club where they didn't provide at least one security guard to see of wannabe DJ's and drunks looking to start a fight then I'd probably leave. Just small time otherwise

For mobile And Clubs I use VDJ the people don't know what your using, but they are ready to party and party so if the music doesn't stop or slipping then your good. some dj spend so much money on there software and accessories and don't understand how VDJ does it all with one just controller and CP.

Yeah other DJ's come to my show, and on occations I let a sellect few SpinUp a 20 or 30 min. session letting them get a feel for it, cause I know their using tracktor or serato in the clubs they play in, so it's all good.

I mostly do mobile, you play, get paid, no politicks. I don't like house for the most part, too many silly people that change like the weather, and i'm not a therapist....

BOTH

I'm out MON - (VIDEO DANCE PARTY) TUE thru FRI - (KARAOKE PARTIES) then weekends are ava for any party go-getter!

The other DJ's are just Jelious...Because VDJ has com along way Ive been with VDJ sence 3.0 and will continue forever.......
you could always change the skin if you haven't I use the VMS4 skin it's awesome.......

I am 99 percent mobile, mostly weddings, school dances, etc. But a hall manager I know asked me to be the opening DJ in a 4 DJ set for the grand opening for this new place. I said sure. When I got to the gig one other DJ was a Serato user and a second said that he only used real vinyl. They were all club DJ's and here I was this wedding mobile with just a Maya44 & laptop with no time codes or controllers (I was still using PCDJ back then). They were nice to my face, but i figured they were clowning on me behind my back. I opened it up playing Top 40 & some light hip-hop and kept a full dance floor for my hour and left the "I only use real vinyl" DJ with a packed dance floor. He took over from me and wiped the dance floor clean in one song. I hung out for another half an hour and his dance floor was bare the entire time because he was playing this crap noone had ever heard of. I didn't stay but the lady who hired me told me later that people were saying I was the best DJ of the night.

Moral of the story. It is less about the gear you rock than song selection and reasonable mixing skills.

Started out doing parties and weddings, then got a residency for two years at a cool bar, now play clubs, pubs, parties and "the scene".
VDJ all the way for me.. so I guess that makes me both. I work with other club DJ's who use VDJ and some use other software.

"Stand tall and do what needs to be done.
If you need to follow others, you'll never learn to run."

Keep up the fight good sir.

I DJ/MC anything I can, Clubs, bars , pubs, partys, weddings and receptions, super markets (that was a fun day) coorparate events etc....

I DJ 2 of the hottest Clubs in Atlanta & I am mobile for private events and weddings (cause clubs don't pay much here). Most of the clubs here use Serato and like everyone else in this forum, DJs look at me crazy when I fire up VDJ.

For a while the pressure got to me and I went back to Scratch Live and then Itch. In my opinion, the only benefit to serato products is the sound for scratching. Serato is a beast when it comes to scratching and VDJ can't compete from that standpoint, but eventually I came back to VDJ.

As a total software package....its really not a comparisoon. From video codecs, to karaoke, configuring controllers, plug ins and flexibility...VDJ is the way to go.

I am going to state the obvious here:

If a "dj" was at a show that I was doing, whether it be a wedding or a club, and he/she wanted to belittle me for using Virtual DJ, I would simply say,

"I appreciate your opinion regarding my software of choice. I should remind you that I am actually a paid professional. By the way, why aren't YOU working tonight?"

I have used this line with great success. It also works for the guy/gal who says something like,

"I'm a DJ too and I just KNOW (insert lame song request here) will fill your floor."

I say, use what works for you. I love the video capabilities and the "skinnability" of Virtual DJ. I do all kinds of events from bars and clubs to weddings, backyard parties, and even promo events in shopping malls. Virtual DJ is all I use.
