Topic: How to setup Virtual DJ for automatic cross over

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi guys
I'm very new to this and I can't for the life of me work out how to setup the system so that when one deck stops, the other one starts up. Can anyone help please?

regards.....kleinfranken

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure you can't do that...

VDJ does have a function that allows you to set a playlist going, and it will play one song after another, but it will only do this on a single deck - so that you can cue up a song on the other and start playing live again.

I think that in previous VDJ versions, it did function deck-to-deck but they changed it some time ago.

Hmmm, maybe now that we can have more than two decks on VDJ, Atomix could bring the old method back.....

Sorry, dual deck automix is depreciated since VirtualDJ v4 and has been long since replaced with a more powerful single deck system that has more flexible automixing options. It also leaves the other deck spare, allowing you to cue up a song ready for when you wish to take over mixing manually again.

However, you can map a keyboard shortcut or MIDI button to the action automix_dualdeck which will allow you to enable dual deck automix again, however this is depreciated and is not recommended. Pressing the key will turn on the dual deck automixing and pressing it again will revert to the new single deck automix.

For basic instructions on how to add or change a mapping, please see:

Thanks for the info guys.....still an awesome program

On a multi deck setup (more than two decks) is it possible to specify which two decks this command uses?

No, because it is a depreciated option.

We do not recommend using it.

The playlist single-deck automix actually works very well. You can preset each track as to whether it will cut-mix, just crossfade, or beatmatch (as long as the bpm's are close)
... or you could even let vdj decide by using the smartmix option.

Even more, you can preset the specific in and out points for each track if you want.
The easiest way to do this I've found is to preview each track in the non-live deck and pull up the bpm options by right-clicking on the "bpm" button (if using the default skins - other skins may or may not have this button). Somewhere I saw a tutorial on this... oh yeah... the user manual. ;)
