Topic: using a hercules RMX as JUST a sound card

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I just found out about the Numark MixTrack (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Numark-MixTrack-DJ-Controller-1292606660960-i1545208.gc) today and it's a total steal for $150! The only thing i don't like about it is that it doesn't come with a soundcard, but that's also probably why it's only $150. I know this question has most likely been answered elsewhere, but i also have another question which i'll ask after the first.

1st question: Would it be possible to use the hercules RMX soundcard with the MixTrack? Obviously i would just run the line-out of the MixTrack into the line-in of the RMX. I'm weary of this though, never done it before and cautious about buying this to do it because I've tried to run just the line-out RCA jacks on the RMX and get no sound whatsoever. Don't know why. Seems like the only way I can get output audio is from the 1/4" jacks. Maybe I just have some settings wrong somewhere and need to change it. I don't know, but that's the main reason why I'm weary of buying this. Also, does the RMX need to be powered on (through USB, obviously) to have the soundcard work? If so, would VDJ or traktor scratch pro understand that i have 2 controllers hooked up through USB because the MixTrack is also powered through USB?

Now question 2: Now say all of that stuff in question one works and I'm good to go and able to play music with the Mixtrack. Would i then be able to play, say deck A and deck B on the MixTrack, and deck C and deck D on the RMX? or vica versa. Again, not sure how that would work out with VDJ or traktor scratch pro since it's trying to read 2 different controllers through 2 different midi's.

Thanks in advance for any answers or comments!

The MixTrack has no sound card, so there is no line out.

Because you have Pro, you can however use any sound card of your own choice.

So all you would need to do is simply connect both controllers (MixTrack and RMX) to your computer by USB cables. Configure VirtualDJ to use the sound card in the RMX and use this for your headphones and master output.

If you have two controllers connected and use a 4 deck skin, then one controller will be automatically assigned to control decks 1&2 and the other will be assigned to decks 3&4.

NOTE: MixTrack Pro does have a sound card, but is more expensive.

you sure there's no outputs on the MixTrack? check this: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PyQdczq98H4/TSgeyj8SYiI/AAAAAAAACyw/5royPT92L5k/s1600/numark_mixtrackpro_back_lg.jpg&imgrefurl=http://excessiverecordsdjshop.blogspot.com/2011/01/numark-mixtrack-pro-dj-software.html&usg=__aWNLvqfy_RTTszuFFteAxu40v9E=&h=750&w=1200&sz=152&hl=en&start=15&zoom=1&tbnid=_25PgiCk3r5P9M:&tbnh=129&tbnw=207&ei=DeVvTYHwJYG6sAPrhsi7Cw&prev=/images%3Fq%3DMixTrack%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D685%26tbs%3Disch:10,600&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=357&vpy=276&dur=853&hovh=177&hovw=284&tx=97&ty=113&oei=CeVvTbLXNY2ksQP4s4y4Cw&page=2&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:15&biw=1280&bih=685

kinda shows that there is an output for audio. but either way, if i can just hook up both via USB like you said, then there would be no point of it. Thanks!

You've linked to the MixTrack Pro. That one has onboard sound. The regular MixTrack (without the Pro) doesn't. Confusing, isn't it? ;)
