Hopefully this will help somebody out there with one of these wondering if it can still be used for anything (drivers and software for this haven't been updated for several years now - no more support).
So I figured out how to get this working in Windows 7 64-bit:
Attach it to your PC with a std. usb cable and let windows say it can't find drivers for it. In device manager it will show up as MD-P1 in unknown devices.
Download and run the installer for the Roland/Edirol PCR-series usb controllers.
go here and click on the "downloads" tab: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=865
(the other OS version drivers may work too if you aren't using Win7x64)
When the installer prompts you to plug in your PCR controller hit cancel. It will then ask you to run the uninstaller but cancel that too (DON'T run the uninstaller).
Switch back to (or open if you haven't already) device manager and right-click on the MD-P1 device and select "update driver".
Click "Browse my computer", then click "let me pick from a list...".
In the list, select the first "show all" and let the next window populate (in some cases this step may be skipped).
In manufacturers, select Roland, then on the right select PCR.
Go next and answer yes to the question about installing this driver for this device.
Done.
Now you can go into VDJ and config-->mappers and you should now have "Simple MIDI Wrapper" in the drop-down (rescan if it hasn't shown up yet). Now you can custom map almost all the buttons, knobs, and fader (a few buttons on the top don't seem to spit out midi CC's).
Also, once you have the controller installed in Windows, you can use it with anything that accepts midi CC's that you can custom map.
I haven't tried it yet, but it also has a standard midi in port to connect other midi devices to it for additional control.
I'll try to update whatever i find out and maybe even upload a controller map once I read up on how to do that.
