Topic: Behringer DDM4000 Help

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I purchased one today, read the instructions how to install but the dam thing wont work.

- Cables are all connected correctly.

- I went out and bought a USB to MIDI device and plugged the red cable into the "In" part of the mixer and the black cable to the 'Out'.

- Downloaded software: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Support/U-Control-Downloads.aspx. I firstly downloaded 64-bit USB MIDI Driver and that wouldn't install, then i downloaded 64-bit USB ASIO driver and went to install but that was a fail (I'm running windows 7, 64 bit).

Re read instruction manual and no help.

What am i doing wrong, i'm guessing its something simple?

Thanks
Dan

Which usb to midi did you buy?

Most of them (i think) have drivers already built into windows

It was from a place called Maplin

The product is NewLink.

It says it already has the drive built in (Which when i plugged it into the computer, a message on Windows popped up saying installing driver (I only assumed installing DDM4000 driver))

After that message popped up did another one pop up telling you it was installed successfully? ? Cause it should have saying it was successful or not.

I never really took much attention as i received a phone call.

I have unplugged it and plugged it back in and nothing has happened, the computer just beeps.

I have just changed USB sockets and it has NOT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED, with a unknoown error

I did a windows update and it downloaded a update that makes the USB MIDI device work. So now it's install successfully.

I went to VDj and changed the settings to this:

I pressed ok and got this message:

I can load a song on a virtual deck and start my time code, all i can hear is the needle spinning round on time time code through my speakers.

Try changin it to a 2 line mixer and see if you still get the asio error. What sound card are you using?

Yes i have, same error.

I'm using ASIO4ALL ???

I downloaded it from Behringer website, assuming this would make it all work?

Very very very confused.

The MIDI and the audio are 2 different things. The MIDI cable will only allow you to control VDJ's actions with the mixer. The DDM 4000 does not have a built in sound card, so you will still need something like Audio4DJ to route the audio.

Yo bro you ever get your mixer up and running? If so let us know what you had to do. It might help out others who have this mixer aswell.

Like someone else mentioned earlier on this post, the sound card has nothing to do with this mixer since this mixer does not have an on-board sound card. You must must connect your current sound card to the mixer just like you would normally do it using any traditional mixer.

I am amusing you are trying to use the mixers MIDI controls to work with VDJ, if so read on....

1st important question to ask yourself is? DID YOU TURN ON MIDI ON THE MIXER????
You must enable midi on the mixer by using the mixer's center screen, I don't remember how to do it (I no longer own this mixer) but read the manual!!!!!! I know most guys hate reading manuals but I think reading the manual on this mixer is very important with all the features it has.

Once you have midi enable on the mixer go onto VDJ config ===>> Mappers and do a key learn and see if your able to assign anything on the mixer to a function on VDJ.

TIP: Depending on the USB to midi cable manufacture you might have to connect the in to out on the mixer and the out to in on the mixer, I found some MIDI cable I tried were labeled backwards.

This mixer works great with VDJ!!

Hope this helps.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, i AM still trying.

In the mean time, i have bought a MAYA44.

This evening i have managed to hook this up. Deck to MAYA44 -> DDM -> Computer.

I need to get a RCA cable that has a 3.5mm female jack one end and 2 RCA male cables the other end to plug into the back of the DDM to get sound? The reason being my speakers have a 3.5mm jack, i believe this needs to be plugged into the DDM output?

I can see the deck on the screen moving, and NOW, i can see the wave bars moing on the screen, i just can't get any sound.

I've bought a USB MIDI cable too. I understand you have to press a button on the DDM for 3 seconds (#57 iirc) but this dosn't do anything. and nothing p[ops up pon the DDM screen either.

At this present moment, i've decided to take small steps. I'll try and get the DDM and turn tables all hooked up, then i'll try and introduce the RMX.

Thanks

P.s. There is a thread i created on the Djforum (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250975). Reading back, i've realised what i've said and how n00b i've sound.

Thanks again guys for your help!

Your decks should be hooked to the inputs of the Maya. The Maya's output should be hooked to 2 of the channels on the DDM. You should have a USB-Midi cable plugged from the Midi In and Out jacks to the computer. Press the MIDI knob that is dead center on the mixer in for about 2 or 3 seconds. A menu should pop up on your DDM display. Use that same knob to scroll to MIDI Setup, then press the knob in again to select it. From there, you use the corresponding knobs underneath the 2 lists to scroll to and select which parts of the mixer you want to be able to use MIDI control with.

This should be your starting point. Follow those steps and let us know if it has started working for you. Be sure that your audio setup is correct as well, or you still won't get sound. For this type of configuration, which is similar to mine with the exception of the Maya card (I use NI Audio4DJ), I would choose Input: TIMECODE(S)....Ouput: EXTERNAL MIXER....Sound Card: ASIO

After reading the other thread in your link, you really don't need the Maya if you have a RMX. Just substitute the RMX in place of the MAYA, and make the connections recommended above.

Your RMX contains a sound card already so all you do is hookup your decks to it, return the MAYA44 you don't need it unless you plan of getting rid of your RMX.

I think first you need to learn how to setup time codes with RMX, watch this video first (I take no credit for the video), its a pretty good video on how to setup RMX with time code.

Once you have mastered setting up the RMX with time codes move onto learning how to put the DDM4000 in midi mode.

Step 1) Connect MIDI to USB cable from DDM4000 to your computer
Step 2) On your DDM4000 press and hold down for approx 2 secs the "Console Setup" Knob, its located directly bellow the center screen on the DDM4000 right in the middle. (See page 9 of the owners manual if you need help locating it, the knob is labeled as #51 on page 9)
Step 3) Scroll down to "MIDI settings" by using the same "Console Setup" knob you were just pressing down on. Press down the "Console Setup" knob once you have highlighted "MIDI settings"
Step 4) Enable MIDI on whatever sections of the mixer you would like. Let's keep it simple and only enable MIDI on the crossfader section for right now. Using the same "Console Setup" knob, scroll down to crossfader and press down to put the crossfader section in MIDI mode.
Step 5) Press "MIDI Start/Stop/ESC button", this button is located directly bellow the "Console Setup" knob. (See page 9 location #52)

Now go into VDJ, if you did it correctly you should be able to map the crossfader and the EQ kill buttons around the crossfaders in VDJ.

Once you have mastered these 2 tasks come back for more!!!

I now have the RMX working as the soundcard.

MAGA - I have tried what you said on the DDm and nothing at all happens on the screen. I think its a faulty product.

Thanks
