I've been using VDJ with a controller for years - I've just pulled out Numark's control vinyl and hooked it up for the first time.
The config to get a basic setup going was seemless but here is what I've got to work with:
1. A pair of crappy Numark TT-1520 "direct drive" turntables
2. A set of needles and cartridges that kind of suck
3. A pair of haggard Numark control vinyl
The problem I'm having is piss poor control over the song. It's just not that responsive and accurate. When I look at the signal configuration it seems pretty weak but when I press down on the turntables the signal seems to get better. Must I buy new turntables with better torque to fix this do you think I'll get away with replacing my needles and buying some new control vinyl?

If you having bad signal, its not because of the torque. check the needles first and if you setup the tonearm correctly. and what are haggard tcvs?

Thx for the replies - I'm going to pick up some new needles and control vinyl to see if that helps
