Topic: Virtual DJ with Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3 for waveform

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

If anyone can help me with my question, I would really appreciate it. Thank you

I purchased 2 Pioneer CDJ 1000 mk3. I used to DJ with a Midi Controller / DJ Software and now I just switched to the CDJ. I find that the waveform on the CDJ 1000 Mk3 are not as accurate as I would like. I was wondering if it's possible to connect the CDJ 1000 Mk3 to my laptop and use the DJ Program (Virtual DJ) to display the waveform. It means that I would use all the features on my CDJ 1000 Mk3/DJM 800 and the DJ software will be use only to display the waveform... I would like to know if it's possible to do that and what equipment I need to buy to be able to do that. Note that I don't want to use the software for cueing, looping, effects and all the other features only the for the waveform. Is there any way to send the track info to the laptop/DJ Software and then have an accurate waveform. I want a perfect sync between my CDJ and the software so I can exactly know where I am in the track.

Thank you

You can use the CDJ 1000's to control VirtualDJ via timecode CD. This will allow you to control playback of the loaded song (Play/cue, pitch, scratching, manual loops (IN/OUT) and hot cues.) The waveform for the loaded MP3 song will be displayed in VirtualDJ.

If you wish to use effects or master tempo (Keylock), these must be used within VirtualDJ itself. If you apply these on the CDJ, then it will be applied to the timecode signal and will corrupt it. You can assign effects in VirtualDJ to keyboard shortcuts to make them easier and convenient to trigger. See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJscript.html and http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VDJScript%20Examples.html

To use timecode CD's, you will need a suitable ASIO sound card such as Hercules DJ Trim, Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ or ESI Maya44 USB.

NOTE: No information from VirtualDJ (E.g: Artist/title, BPM, waveform, etc.) will be displayed on the CDJ - This is only possible with MIDI controllers. You may wish to consider upgrading to Pioneer's new CDJ-900 or CDJ-2000 - Both of these are MIDI capable and can interface with the software directly.

NOTE: You must also play MP3's in VirtualDJ itself. If you play a normal audio CD in the CDJ, then no info will be shown in VirtualDJ.

Thank you
