Topic: New Turntable with no needles

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

This recently debuted at the 2005 Home Entertainment Show. 5 lasers read the grooves instead of a needle.

All this can be yours for only $19,000. =)

Wow. This does look like a one, BIG, CD player :)

and how is one supposed to scratch with that??? LOL

You could pick up the whole unit and shake it, perhaps. =)

Not sure, it might scream 'TILT' if you've done that...

we should go back on schellacs!!!!!:-)

lol =)

...maybe you have to stick your hand with the vinyl. :D

maybe you could use timecode to scratch ;-)

"The Laser Turntable is perfect for record collectors, archivists and vinyl enthusiasts alike."

Mmhh... seems that it's not for DJs ;)

Ciao!! :)

I would have to test it before purchasing that.

It could be nice for ripping vinyls! I wonder if it will skip on hot spots like the needles do at time hehe

It's only $19,000. Give it a go and let us know how it works. =)

In their demo, it was able to track records with surface scratches that would make a conventional needle jump all over the place.

On the flip side, certain records with non-standard groove shapes are completely unusable, as well as colored or translucent ones. It's obviously not a performance tool, but it might be a peak into what we'll see on the DJ tables in a few years.

well then in that case I'll just have to wait a few more years and wait until the price goes down so I can have a better quality as well as a wider range of support for those "special" vinyls.

I have many unplayed vinyl in their original sleeves although I don't want to put it on a table so the value stays up. I also have some 3 sided vinyls as well so I'm sure that this machine will definatelly not see the 3rd side.
