Topic: Upset with VDJ and DANG you VDJ!

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

There I was happy in my blue collar job, getting up at 5:30AM,AM rushing off to work, traffic, nasty managers, deadlines, etc.

Life had become that wonderful dull routine day after day after day. O.O <--- drone eyes

THEN one night after work sitting at my computer playing some dumb game, I remembered VDJ on my old drive that I bought and DL last year and thought, hmmm ok lets play.

Then the pop up,

Ahhh NEW VDJ! More improvements, features! plugins and skins!

And not only that but the upgrades for customers was free! WOW is that customer service or whaaAAAaaaaaAAAAaaaat?

Then visits to those dang forums and additional products and reading about all the fun folks are having.

OK, I thought, I'll just DL the new VDJ, a few songs, mix and play.

AND THAT'S WHEN IT ALL BEGAN!

WOW, VDJ is even more exciting then ever to use with that clever auto monitor among other features and the spark was lit!

DANG YOU VDJ! I AM UPSET WITH YOU!

My Dull routine is forever changed!

I have just spent close to a grand in 4 days, online, rebuilding my music collection so I can play again!

AND ON TOP OF THAT, I SPENT THE LAST TWO WEEKS WORKING 7-8 MORE HOURS AFTER WORK EACH NITE DIGITIZING MUSIC AND MAKING PLAYLISTS PLUS 12 HOURS ON WEEK ENDS!

THANK GOD FOR SPREAD SHEETS!

I may never make the night club scene anymore but am planning some private gigs that I know will be koolness!

SO DANG YOU VDJ FOR MAKING ME FINALLY ACCEPT MY DREAM OF PLAYING MUSIC WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO IGNORE MOST OF MY LIFE and is probably the one thing above anything else that I enjoy through and through and through!

yep, I'm a bit older, well OK A LOT OLDER! but I am having a blast!

I don't know where this path will lead. But the one thing I do know is that part of the adventure is the journey in between and whatever happens I will have an incredible adventure along the way with your software and as soon as I can afford it some of you other mouth watering products!!

:::::::slow deep sigh:::::::::

Thanks VDJ!

Thanks Studio!

I appreciate your words very much!

I had hoped that those words would inspire others!

We all share a deep passion for music and it is so easy to to fall victim to need and find our selves needing to work and inadvertently end up in some job we don't want to be in.

I know I missed a lot and could easily let that get me down. NO WAY!

I will make the best of my circumstances and find a way!

There is always a way and I will find it even if it is small parties!

And we will pay a price for what we do as all ARTISTS do!

Some of us may only know the joy we feel when we play and have a life of living from gig to gig, pay check to pay check and going without.

It is at the end of our life when we look back and see how much fun we had exploring our gift that makes the difference.

Some people forgot their gift, went to work and will eventually retire having only known that they spent their whole life in a a job they hated.

Yes they had a great income and bought a lot of toys but missed out on the simple joy of living which is found in these gifts that we have been given, whatever they are.

Mixing music is a gift and as I said exacts a price. But what it gives to us as individuals and what we add to peoples lives is priceless.

I still remember the first time that I played publicly, that defining moment that told me I had this gift. I watched all those people enjoying what I was playing and then was asked to stand down to another so called PROFESSIONAL NIGHT CLUB DJ well, there are those that are gifted in clearing a dance floor ( sniker ) and then there are those that take a dance floor full of people on a journey, an odyssey of dance and sound. He came in right after me and cleared the dance floor with one song! ooOOooOOps.

I was asked to return. I will never forget that night and if that is all that I get to do, it will have been enough! I will tell the whole story here one day. It is actually a very funny story. That DJ had a few henchmen that tried to sabotage me hahahahahaha!

Back to what I was babbling about, yes, many people can mix music song to song throughout an evening and provide a great experience for people but the greatest challenge is being able to create the whole evening. That was what I was doing when that other DJ tried to play music and cleared the dance floor.

Playing music is like writing a book. The book is written and then published. It has certain elements that determine it's success yet follows basic rules. Story line, subject matter, characters, plot and climax are the most basic.

This is what defines our creativity, creating musical story lines with plots and climaxes planned for a night of play.

These same elements can be applied to creating an adventure in music over a night.

So much like a writer writing a story we plan our nights music, BUT we have the advantage of being able to change the plot as we see the need arise in the listening audience and can deviate from our musical storyline if and as the need arises.

That is what that other DJ missed. Had he been paying attention, he could easily have stepped in, continued to play along my musical story line and then subtly lead off to his music and would have succeeded within a few songs. In doing what he did, it was like removing a chapter from a book and inserting a chapter from another book that was completely unrelated to the storyline.

I use spread sheets to plan an evening to get a general idea of what I am going to play during an evening and then during the performance deviate here and there as the need arises but, I always know where I want my music to go, the climax(s)

I know what I am going to play from 9:00PM to 10:00PM, 10:00PM to 11:00Pm etc and as I said yes from time to time I deviate as the need arises.

I know you probably know all of this but felt like writing.

Have a great HOLIDAY!
