Topic: Upgrading from the Total Control

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

So i've been using VDJ successfully with the Numark Total Control for almost 2 years now and feel like i'm ready to grow. Let me be clear, that I love the TC/VDJ combo but feel like i'm starting to get a little stale in some settings and want to experiment with more functionality in VDJ. My problem is the learning curve as opposed to the cost of going out and buying a bunch of new toys. All the fancy new controllers 'look' cool but would i really use all the bells and whistles. I guess what i'm really looking for is some opinions from some of you who have upgraded from the total control in the past and what you liked. I have a Denon DN-x500 mixer and the DJ-IO sound card so really just looking for a new controller. I realize there have been many ''what do you like best'' topic threads out there but i'm really looking for opinions from Total Controls users who have upgraded. I appreciate all your inputs folks!!!!

I own a Total Control. I also own an RMX, a VCI-300, two iCDXs. In the past I have owned the Poineer CDJ-400, along with a BCD2000. So, I have some experience in the controller market. If your looking to expand, the RMX is very, very similar to the TC, I would stay away. The VCI-300 is a super sweet controller. But, it does have a lot of bells and whistles, which you said is not appealing to you. I have been very happy with my iCDX set up for over two years now. The CDJ-400 is a nice unit too, but in my opinion its a better CD player than controller.

I know I have not really given you a direction but, I hope I have answered some of your questions. You might, might, consider a time code option and some CDJ800s.

I also had the total controle for about 1 year also. If your looking for a new midi I would want you to think about going timecodes. It really opens you up to a more profesional look. Because the only other midi's i can think about that are worth it are the vestax vci-300 or NS7. The hercluse is just a total controle with a sound card built in that u can use time codes with. Right now my new set up is.. Denon 1200's X2, denon 120 mixer maya 44usb and numark total controle remaped too triger what i want too.

I also started out with the total control and dj io combo.

I tried several other midi controllers when i felt the need to upgrade but they all do pretty much the same so i went down the timecode path and i love it would never go back to a midi controller again. Although i do still have the numark dmc2 with the dj io as i felt this was perfect for my karaoke and smaller venues but its timecode all the way for me when it comes to playing in clubs and bars.
