Topic: can this be done?

I want to mix video. My question is, Can I use a "Faderfox DJ2" to cross fade the video(a midi mixer or controller, not sure what you call it) and use my "usb Maya44" or the "Virtual Vinyl soundcard" with 1200's hooked up to that, as to be able to scratch.

Any input would be great. Thanks for you time.

If it's a MIDI or HID device then yes, yes you can :)
 
OK so I found a midi mixer the ECLER 4, but anyways the thing that is confussing to me is this talk about video faders and audio faders. So if I use this mixer as a midi mixer with TCV I can only control the picture and not the sound (I would still need a different fader for the audio)?? If i'm in the wrong area could you point me in the right direction please.

Most midi mixers (such as Ecler), has a dual feature for the crossfader.
In other words its BOTH a real hardware audio crossfader (like any other mixer), but also a midi slider at same time.
Therefore you can map the midi part of the crossfader to move the software video crossfader..

As a result, both audio and video will crossfade at the same time, when moving the crossfader...


A few (usually cheaper) midi mixers, might only send midi signals when moving the crossfader.
This is fine, as VDJ can be set to have the video software crossfader follow the audio software crossfader.
And by mapping the external mixers crossfader to midi audio crossfader in software, you'll get same result as above (crossfade audio + video).


Technically & quality wise, its better with a real hardware crossfader for the audio though... such as Ecler, Pioneer, Korg etc midi mixers do.

A real full blood hardware mixer that can act like your audio/video crossfader (like in video) are many..

- Ecler mixers with midi (said to have great scratch dj crossfaders)
- Pioneer DJM 700 & 800
- Korg Zero4
etc

You also have the option to not go for a full blood hardware mixer, but still get a great mixer..
Such as mixers from Allan & Heath.. but they are quite expensive.

Personally knowing your style from VDJ Radio, I'd think the Ecler ones would be your best choice.

If its too much cost, a midi controller is a budget solution, but you need something with a good quality crossfader.
Such as Vestax VCI.300. But since you already are using timecode, not sure this would be of any interest (since its really a dual deck controller too)

Alternatively Behringer 4000 mixer... Its a real hardware mixer with midi, but a bit low on quality compared to the big dogs ;)

Wow that cat in the first video is good!! Man I gotta pratice more!! LOL! Anyways Ive decided to go with the Ecler NUO-4 Pro 4 Channel DJ Mixer, but I have searched and searched but I couldnt find any info about weather or not you are able to scroll threw tracks and folders with this mixer like you can with others?? Maybe you know (@ DJ-IN-NORWAY) lol? If you cant no biggie I'm good with my folders so digging threw them is no big deal. This might seem dumb, but does "Extending You Monitor" use "CPU" in your comp? Hahaaa I know, I can spin a tune or 2 but when it comes to this tech stuff I'm lost. Also I see there is a mapper for this mixer already in the downloads which should make this whole process even easier, I hope, lol!!

Well thanks for your time cause I have learned a ton of stuff!!!!
 
Be aware of one oddity about Ecler..

Their first branch of midi mixers where called Nuo4 etc...
But year after they re-released it as Nuo 4.0 ... and without midi. So you need to get the version 4, and not the 4.0.

(the re-release of Nuo with midi is called Evo.. )

No idea why they changed names like that, kinda comfusing, so here are some images ... so that you get the correct mixer

The great thing about Ecler is almost all buttons can be mapped (midi),
so you can easily make a knob for scrolling folders & songs yes ;)

Some, but not that much.. IF the graphic card is a good one, that take the work load away from the CPU.
You need a graphic card with dedicated ram, and preferably 256mb or more..

The graphic card is usually the bottleneck for video mixing with a laptop, as many laptop have integrated graphic cards thats share the ram with Windows, and slow performance. Such a card wont cut it for full screen HQ video mixing on external monitor.
And such graphic cards also needs software to render the output, and will use a quite a bit CPU....

You need a fast graphic card with its dedicated ram on the card, and this is essential for video mixing on 2nd monitor/screen

I think its cause I'm using my Blackberry, I noticed that yesterday also. I'm sorry, any ideas on how to stop it? I just posted this from the comp at home and no doubles so it has to be cause of my phone.
 
 
ASUS laptops are nice. can get 512 vid & 4gb ram, 2+gh proc for about 800. same comp with 256 vid is about 600.

if the ecler don't work out for you(which it should , eclers are the best mixers going), remember you can do a break out box on a faderfox.
