Topic: BPM storage

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello, regularly I completely delete all my music files on the c: drive of my laptop and recopy the complete database from an external harddisk (including the music files deleted + new songs downloaded in the meanwhile).

My question is the following: the majority of deleted files and new files is the same, only the new ones are being added but as I do not know all of the new files that is why I first completely delete the database and then recopy it with the new files coming from another desktop linked with the external harddrive.

I was now wondering what effect this has on the html file that is stored on the c: drive of my laptop. Will it recognise still those same music files and will I only need to scan the new files for BPM or will I need to re-scan all music files again?

So bottomline question is: does VDJ recognise if a file that was previously scanned for BPM but then deleted from the c: drive and later recopied to the c: drive and thus keep the BPM information or will I need to re-scan that file?

Thanks!

Johan

In VDJ, the BPM is kept in the database. VDJ does not currently (although been asked for many many times) write the info back to the tags, so if you're not copying the VDJ database over then you will need to rescan all the tracks.

as long as the filename remains the same, the data (bpm etc) in the database will be recognised again.
But.... if you have replaced a file with another one with the same name, if you have different bitrate, lenght, etc, the datas are wothless.

Bottom line...if you have copied the same files exactly, no problem.

Thanks guys!
