I have an old mixers with non-switchable phono ins. Would anybody know how to do this? Is i a difficult mod. This is an anolog Vestax. I think that will X-OUT jumpers.

can you use a direct box?

What is that?

Hi mate

I hope I understand the question. You want to convert the phono inputs on a mixer to take a line level analog input?

This is not a difficult mod for any competent service engineer. All that needs to be done is to bypass the phono pre amp stage in the mixer.

If you can give me the model number of the mixer I may be able to get a circuit diagram and tel you what needs to be done.

depends on your mixer it may allow you to connect directly to controller via maybe a 1/4 inch just depned on what box or oupusts of the box and the vci.

Dazmax: vmc-002xl(You may ask why? Because i like it's simple tough build + it has pro outs and tru fader curve)

P: I am super dumb to that subject.LOL! Where would i find one of these?

The mixer you list has both PHONE and LINE inputs for both channels ... the switch is on top of the mixer in the center next to the HIGH EQ knobs ...

This is the VMC-002XLu ... but it is the same design and layout ..

I want both inz to be line because i do allot of open mics. So i need line for my cd players. I use the line phono switch to transform scratch.
Thanx anyway:)
Oh yeah i use VirtualVinyl. So I think you got me now?

Speaking of line phono. I also need to ad (while im in the unit) some kind of "kill switch" (so to speak) to kill the tc signal while i transform. This was easy with my 4 channel mixer. It was a behringer with plastic phono/line switches. They broke. These are metal. So thats another reason why I want my Lil' baby back. Any thoughts?

hellooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi mate

Sorry been bussy this week. Not having any luck with a circuit diagram. I don't suppose the mixer came with one as part of its op manual? You may be able to get one from Vestax but they will charge you for it.

This is not the sort of thing i can work out blind so my only other suggestion is to start having a look for a local electronics repair shop and explain what you want to have done.

Ok

It is a solution but is in no way a quality one. The differences in signal level involved in using an external convertor like this can add allot of noise and cause a missmatch in the RIAA Curve that is not realy acurate.

It is a very simple solution tho and one which dosn't invove opening up the mixer. You could try it and see how you go. It dosn't sort out all of your switching needs but comes close.

Thanks for the info mate.

Daz

Dazmax Ive been talking to some techs about it. Ive done some research on those converters. After I came cross a couple of statments like your last one, It made me want to do this internally. So thank you for your info. Its nice to apart of a forum that people really try to help.

Oh yeah paulheu I prefer BING. UMAMANBOI!

No problem

If you get your hands on a circuit diagram feel free to scan and send it to my email address. I can work it out from there. Just let me know you have sent it as I don't check my emails as often as I should. I spend more time on the forum. sad but true.

Daz

Actually, if you do it internally and have someone to do it for you it should be easy enough. The PHONO preamps usually sit before the input switch so overriding them should be easy enough if you have some basic electronics skills..

I went in there yesterday. I was looking for something like that(phono pres). Everything looks the same. Ive been looking for the diagram. Most likely, would they be located on the input/output board or the board with the faders? I am going to post pics of the guts later.

I do not think anyone, at least not me, is gonna tell you here what to do and get haunted if you **** it up.. Get the mixer to a repair/electronics center and explain them what you need/want. It is probably gonna be a simple patch for them not costing you that much..

Hi mate

If your that keen and the board comes out as a one piece unit then scan both sides of the board in a good resolution. The pics needs to be clear enough for me to read the numbers on the chips and the colour codes on the other components. I should be able to tell you where the phono pre amps are.

Let me make one thing realy clear tho. I don't recomend you doing the work yourself if your not qualified and would only provide a tech speak explanation as to what I suggest you get an engineer to do for you. I wont give you specific instructions.

I hope you understand why.

Daz

Thats cool. No one will be held liable for my doing. Ive had this mixer for some time. Just asking around for suggestions. Prociate that Daz.

As for paul. Do you have kidz? IF SO, TALK TO THEM LIKE THAT. AS I STATED BEFORE, UM-A-MAN-BOI. PLAY WITCHA BUDDIES.
