Stupid question- after trying to search for the answer via the net and can't find the answer, what do the green/orange/yellow icon colors mean? I had a couple icons turn from orange to green and back again even though I was not presently playing the song?

You should take a look into the manual.

Each color shows different types or states of your files.

I just realized it is skin dependent
 
yep, one or two of the skins made by users in my opinion have got some great icons, especially for my eyes, lol.
