Hard one... What you are asking for is for a Denon 3700. But it isn't below $500. For that price, I can only think in Vestax VCI-100. Hope you like it.
Good Luck!

You will need to upgrade to VirtualDJ Pro to use another controller. You can upgrade at a discount by going to http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html and entering your DJ Console Edition serial number in the box provided at the bottom of the page.

You've got the VCI-100 as mentioned in the post above, which is about $500. You've also got the M-Audio Xponent at around $600.

Does anyone make a controller that is basically just a large (4" diameter or bigger) jog wheel, pitch slider, start, stop, pause buttons and plugs into the usb port?
If something like that exists then I can use a pair of Korg Nano Pads for all the buttons I will need. I already have the numark CM200usb mixer so soundcard and mixer are already taken care of.

Whats Up chriss. You can get the Xponent for less than 500 bucks. Check out www.ProAudiostar.com Even though it says 599 for the Xponent, they negotiate & they have B stock items. The B stock items are alot cheaper and they have warranty. If you live in New York, check out this place. You wont be disapointed from the deals they offer. I bought 3700's, DJM 700 midi mixer and a Denon X1100 mixer from here.

That is what I am looking for, but I can't find a US dealer and I think the cost over here would be more like $350 US. If anybody knows where to get these in the US let me know. I tried zzounds.com but they only sell the OTUS and don't do special orders. Since posting this I discovered Vestax has a new contoller called "Spin" which looks like it will do the trick also and it's only $249 US
http://vestax.com/v/products/active/spin.html
They sell it at the Apple Stores, haven't had a chance to get over there and play yet, but if it feels anything like the VCI 100 or VCI 300 it may be exactly what I am looking for.

Hello dj-e-lectric,
The EKS XP5 is on sale on http://www.floridamusicco.com/proddetail~prod~eks_xp5_dj_controller.htm, for USD 189 per unit.
Vestax Spin looks nice, and is probably worth its price, but its quality cannot match VCI-100 or VCI-300, otherwhise Vestax must divide by 2 the price of VCI-100 and VCI-300 since Vestax Spin is released (Would anybody still spend USD 499 for a VCI-100 if Vestax Spin matches the quality of VCI-100 as DJ controller, and includes audio outputs for half the price of VCI-100?).
But if you just look for 2 large jog wheels, a few transport buttons and 2 pitch faders, Vestax Spin is probably a cost effective choice.

Before I bought mine I looked at all the controllers with software for under $700.
That meant the VC-100, Xponent with Torq and Hercules RMX with VDJ Console edition...
I ended up with the Hercules and here's why -
Portable:
It came with its own case. I don't know about many of you but nothing worst than having expensive electronics just out and about without the proper protection during transport. This lead me to the Hercules because they included the carrying case with it. Being able to store it properly is also a plus.
Software:
Comes with VDJ Console Edition which is plenty for most needs. When start to find the Console Edition to limiting your creativity or adjustments, then its fairly affordable to move up to the full version.
Overall Control:
It really only lacks touch sensitive jog wheels. Which for live scratching is a must, but I don't happen to do it that much. Once the desire returns to have 100% turntable style control, I'll update the controller, but I have a feeling the next version of this thing will have touch sensitive and not increase the cost that much.
I could have spent more and came REALLY close to getting Xponent+Torq which unlike RMX+VDJ comes with a full version of the software. but at the time there was no soft bag included (still isn't $70) and its not self powered by USB and that can be a good or bad. Sometimes with USB being the only source of power can be subject to ground loops, though I haven't had that problem yet. Finally the Xponent is just much bigger and I believe has a longer learning curve.
This thing is bad enough and I can't fully explore the hardware with the limited software but when I upgrade for the price total its HARD TO BEAT.
I also tried ITCH and it was okay, I would need more time with it, but $800!

There's a nice demo of it floating around the Denon DJ forums. It works well, but you have to rack mount it, I don't know if that's an issue for you or not. I mean you don't "have" to do anything, it just would function better in a standard 19" rack mounting giving you a solid foundation.
Put some beats on a flash drive and go demo the things....
