Topic: Video MPEG4 - Promo only DVD now come as Mpeg4 ready

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi

I was at BPM show last week and visited the Promo Only stand and bought several chart DVD's. 2 need ripping to Mpeg4 - I am using Handbrake, anyone got a suggested setting to get the best use out of the ripper program please?

ALSO - good news. The latest DVD's from Promo Only (September chart onwards) are available as MPEG4 ready - You simply copy and paste the files into your song folders and away you go. approx 40 songs to a DVD & no hassle, great value.

I'll be getting these from now on.

Any advice on the ripping settings would be appreciated. Thanks

Looks like they finally realised that were not using DVD players anymore! I can't beleive how long it took to get to this stage.

Works for me however if anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to comment

Promoonly began releasing videos in the Mp4 format 6 months ago for the EXPRESS subscribers which I'm one. I have no plans to change my subscription to the Mp4 format. With the new format the chapters are combined which means you get all the needless junk (Intros) which over time will waste vast amounts of drive space. This issue has been addressed in their forum.

Mr. Wilson I don't have a clue what you mean they "finally realized we were not using a DVD player"?.... the only DVD player I have is the one hooked up to my television to watch OLD YELLER.

As for the poster here's some more information if you want to use handbrake.

Promo Only UK doesn't do the express issue and Promo Only US wouldn’t post to the UK, the first release for us to include the new format (mp4) is this months (Chart Video) "the one and only disc Promo Only does in the UK"

I can't imagine playing Michael Jackson - Thriller at a Halloween gig and not playing the wonderful intro first, I couldn't imagine not having the option to play the intro! I would feel short changed. I like to set multiple cue point so that I can start from a number of different places with a single touch of my midi controller.

This is what a VJ system looks like, it uses discs. People had them before computer software. This one was my last system

Serato also recommend using handbrake for converting to mp4's but there is a better program to use, this one: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/4U-MP4-Video-Converter.shtml

Hope this info helps.

Charlie honey I'm just pushing your leg, I'm familiar with the old DVD systems. My point was I want my DVD's in their original format and I hope they NEVER go to Mpeg-4 only. I want the option of transcoding or NOT, I don't want P.O. making the decision for me. As for the intros the majority are usually highly annoying dialog between the "actors" which sound like HELL over a big sound system.

I've spent HOURS editing out the annoying verbal exchanges, car crashes and general noise that occur in some videos. I can't speak for your peeps but mine would not care for the verbal exchange in Thriller. If I played it from the beginning I'm sure they would look at me like a drove the SHORT BUS to work.

Honk-Honk :-)

Well, I hope you will be able to keep receiving them in full quality format.

Have you tried out an mp4 yet there not bad.

As reported by me a few weeks ago (Wed 16 Sep 09) ;

Was at the Promo Only stand at the Plasa Exibition, Earls Court, London yesterday. Promo Only UK/Eur have been converting all their DVD titles to mp4s for computer DJs. You can now buy the exact same CD as their equivalent DVD but in mp4 format fully tagged. They are also gonna be offering weekly top 3/5 downloads to subscribers very soon. Shhhhhhhhh......... I didn't tell you ;-)

They are converting ALL their titles in time.

Looking forward to the weekly download system.

I just picked up a couple of the mp4 discs. They are good, load nice and easily with no problems, but I might keep with the regular dvds so that I can play them in the clubs that have DVJ's as a backup.

Why such a low bitrate? anything below 4500kbs produces very noticible artifacts, especially in the blacks. Hard drive space is sooooooooo cheap these days do yourself a favor and use a higher bitrate, you will be amazed at how much better the videos look on todays lcd and plasma screens over 32 inches

Yes, your right. I only did them at this for a week or so after taking advice from Serato, actually they recommend (2000) I now do them at 4000

Use VBR.
