Topic: Fire Proof VDJ Vinyl

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

How about making a fire proof vinyl where the DJ can spray a substance on the vinyl(maybe alcohol) and light it for DJ tricks,I would definitely need four(4) like now,the order of the game is to do body tricks and stuff like that to amuse the crowd at a party. Is it possible for the VDJ team design a vinyl on the market for DJs like me who love to think outside the box.

fire is good!

I take it that you're not very familiar with the whole vinyl pressing procedure and the materials typically used for it?

As long as the record is made with the traditional pressing technique, some type of plastic is required as a material...and there isn't a plastic out there that would be soft enough for pressing but heat-resistant enough to be lit on fire without melting.

The only alternative would be metal, but that would require laser-precisioned carving instead of pressing, which would be ridiculously expensive to manufacture...not to mention it would worn out your needles really fast. Even though you could somehow make the records fire resistant, the flames would still reak havoc on your stylus - not to mention it would probably lit up the slipmap, which are usually made from easily flammable materials.

Expensive, impractical, dangerous...maybe a bit too much hassle for a party trick :)

Nice idea though. I like your thinking.

I would suggest a false turntable on the side that you can light on fire. Just make it look like you are scratching on it.
Or how about a small fog machine shooting fog out from under the platter and after the smoke builds up, BANG, some orange LED's start flickering to give the illusion of flames.
Whatever you do eventually come up with, be sure to post a vid :)

Use old vinyl from a car boot/secondhand shop....!

It is not so much as making something fire proof, but insulating it from the heat. Vinyl may not catch fire but its melting point or should I say its heat resistability is very low. A vast knowledge of chemistry is required for such a process. And...most fire laws in most states in the U.S. wouldn't allow such a thing anyway.

How old is this guy. Just curious? :)

If your lighting your records on fire then you got to take one in the name of rock and roll!! smash and burn your stuff at cost.

And dont go burning buildings down, that will not help support your dj'ing

I've heard it all now.......

This has to be the dumbest shit I ever heard. Lets stick to rocking the crowd with music and not gimmicks. think about the lawsuit and jail time you will recieve after burning down the club and killing innocent people...fire is very dangerous.

Are you for real?!?

That's not thinking outside the box but outside of your mind!

Don't get me wrong, being creative is great but stupidity is stupidity.

Think before you post. Use your common sense before you ask VDJ staff to create something that is impracticable, impossible and/or ridiculous.

I would rather they keep making VDJ better than making a burnable but un-melt able disk.

I agree. Like I said. "How old is this guy, anyway?"

Everybody loves raymond, now, don't they?

I am not crazy, just a vibes DJ from the old school,I have used two serato and wet the label section with alcohol, then light the vinyl and do a little scratch and out the fire immediately,it works but how many times I can try this before I actually damage the vinyl,to tell you the truth I am not trying it with my VDJ vinyl because its harder to get than the serato,so all you DJs that have serato vinyls and not using them send them to me,I will put them on fire.Age doesn't matter, its the style you create.

Im sure the club owners will just love it when you burn their club down and kill people. This to me is not a funny issue and think it is quite a stupid idea!!! Does Great White come to mind?? If not then look it up and see what happened.

That's what we are trying to tell you. I didn't know that "style" had anything to do with burning a place down, but a young kid might?

What if you not wet the label and instead of that you glue some recipient who looks like a little plate and pour alcohol in that? And between the vinyl and recipient you can glue a material wich do not transmit heat.
