I'm looking to upgrade my Hard Drive on My laptop but I am wondering what i should back up so I can keep my History and shortcuts....I'm thinking I can just export the shortcuts and re-import after the install
but what should I do for the History....I'm also assuming I will need to keep my music in the same folders so it is recognized on the new drive.
Thanks,

Your history, playlists, skins etc... are on the local c drive not the external if that is what you are asking.
Just make a copy of the vdj folder if its a new machine or local drive.
Then restory by copy and paste replacing when prompted.

Yeah I'm taking out my internal 100GB harddrive and putting in another 500gb harddrive so I have to re-install windows and everything.
So just re-install VDJ...copy my music back to the same folder.....and then copy over the other files into the VDJ Folder and I should be OK????

Save the vdj folder and the xml database that is with your music location along with your music and you should be fine.
When you restore to the new drive, copy back just what you want or need from the saved vdj folder to the new one.
When you copy the music drive just include the xml database along with the music.

Hello gentlemen,
I am preparing to give my laptop a complete reinstall so I also am looking for a way to preserve those handy history files.
Not doubting your word or anything but I just examined that xml file that sits at the bottom of my mp3 folder and I could see no trace of dates or tracks played.
Are you sure about this, or is it me being a bit thick?
Many thanks

History file is located at: Documents\VirtualDJ\Tracklisting, backup the whole directory. If you want to backup absolutely everything look at my post in this thread.

VDJ Folder is this .... MyDocuments\VirtualDJ.
In there you can find everything, Playlists, History, Effects, Skins, Mappers. This is the one you should make a backup copy before formatting HD. XML Databases of course too in the root directory.

when I upgrade my hard drive the best thing you can do is a mirror copy of the one you have then change the drive letter to match your old one...
I've done this several times and it works great.

Does this apply if i want to switch from virtualvinyl to vdj? Im switching from VV to VDJ. I just want to transfer the data; history, cues, etc. NO, it does not automatically do this. What do I need to do?
