Topic: A programme that will find duplicate files in different folders - Page: 2

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Is there a software that update or duplicate another drive, for instance if I have my main music harddrive and i add songs everyday, how do I backup the songs added on a similar drive that I was using before, just in case any drive fails I dont lost a track from the main drive I used.

have a look at File Synchronizer. www.latshawsystems.com it's free.they also do a great programme for getting karaoke files in order

I use Easy File Sync 2.0 www.easyfilesync.com. I've been using it for more years than I care to mention.

Cheers,

Roy

deleting duplicate files
I am also facing the same issue of duplicate files. i got the solution when i used a utility http://duplicatefilesdeleter.com/ and it worked for me.

I use tidy up it does wonders!!!! But it's not free it think is like fourty buck buck it finds all dupicates to the t..... But that's up to you you can find it at tidyup.com and it gives you a free trial before you buy but their a Limit to how much files you can scan on the trial!!!

Check out DupGuru, best one I have found so far. They have a "fuzzy" scanning logic. They also have versions dedicated for music and photo's. The music edition can read ID3 tag's.

Works with all OS's.
Make sure you back up everything on an external drive and remove it before cleaning. As others have stated, software like this does not think, it reacts to what search parameters you give it. If you tell it to automatically remove files, you may loose stuff you don't want to loose.

I use KJ File Manager for Audio (MP3) and Karaoke to find dups.

With Virtual DJ Program You May Have Faced Many Problems With Duplicate Songs So To Remove Duplicate songs From Your PC Use A Free Duplicate File finder From :- http://www.ashisoft.com

I'm going thru the same thing right now. What I did is in iTunes if you hold down your option button and then click file it should show exact duplicates is stead of the display duplicates. What you need to do is add all your music folders to iTunes and then do that process. It finds the dup's by exact name artist and album ect.... I know the feeling. I have over 105k tracks to go thru but this is the only way to do it safely. I've tried other programs and their not cutting it so!! I ended up reading about this in a Mac forum. Try it but don't say I didn't warn ya it's a manual process.

I highly reccomend the software DONT REMOVE THE DUPLICATES and its free too.

Why should you ? The HDs are so cheap. You will certainly find some good reasons too. Example. A song might be in a collection like UK Top, the same song could be in a Artist's Album and so on... Why should be just 1? Think about it.

Agree ;-)

I've have a few of those programs and I've even paid up 60 bucks for one and similar problem like some explain it finds the exact same name but didn't realize its was a different version. So I've even tried useing iTunes with going thru their duplicate finder and the same problem. I got over 160 thousand tracks and its because some how I have duplicated my files some how. So what I'm in the process of foing now is I have 1 folder for my music in my external hd and I'm going thru each folder and each file 1 by 1 and moving the original file to that one folder and deleting the rest. It has been over 6 months now and I'm still not even half way thru. It's going to take time but I believe that's the safest way to do it. IMO

It the song is a different version then in most cases the file size will be different and the CRC check will be different.

The better duplicate finders will not just rely totally on file name.

It's then up to you to make sure different versions are given different file names!

there are a lot of programs out there to address duplicate problems but so far only "******" works for me... its handy, easy to use and effective finding duplicate files... try it if you haven't done so... hope it helps..
