Topic: I'm having Virtual memory issues

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

My older lappy is having virtual memory issues. While playing, I will get a bubble saying that virtual memory is too low. THIS SUCKS!!!

How can I fix this?

My cpu spikes to 100% usage when I load a track and everytime I move or adjust bass, treble or highs, the whole program stutters.

My specs are...

Gateway 6020GZ laptop W/ Intel Celeron M Processor 1.40GHz 2GB of RAM

Any help will be appreciated.

I know I need to purchase a new lappy. how's this one?

I've had GREAT luck with Gateway Referb lappy's but i'm no techie. I need some guidance here folks. I never wanted to move to Vista but it looks inevitable.

Sooooo... How to fix my Lappy and which of the three above lappy's to get?

Oh.... One of these laptops is Vista 64bit one is Vista 32bit. I usually run VDJ 3.4 (I just like how it runs on my gig machine) have not moved to v6 yet. will the 32 or 64bit make a difference?

I stick with option 3 or 2... this not good. Could have some issue because the combination of AMD and that particular ATI video card playing VirtualDJ.

I stay with 3th option instead all the way.

What Up City. Do you DJ only audio or Video.. ? If its only Audio, the laptop is more than enough.

Audio only for the most part. Here in D.C. they not really into video all that much.

I think i'm going with option # 3.

Option 1 looks nice but i dont like the fact that its using Vista 64. The FSB is 3600 MHZ compared to 667MHZ on option 3. That would be really good if it can be was downgraded to 32 bit

AMD uses another measures. If you put this 2 working in VDJ you will see 3th perform better and with less problems.

I have ordered option #3.

Will update you when it arrives and i've had time to play with it. I'm not looking forward to playing with Vista. Thinking of downgrading to XP but I heard it's a PAIN IN THE ASS to do. Installing drivers and all that stuff. Plus I heard that you have to wipe the cpu out completely in order to install XP.

I also have to get a new install of 3.4 for the new lappie. Yeah I know....But I like 3.4. (I'm old and so is 3.4. I still work real good and so does 3.4)

I will have to strip all the bull$h1t off the new lappie and streamline it to run VDJ with NO ISSUES and NO OTHER PROGRAMS running.

Then I have to figure out how to transfer all my VDJ info from 3.4 to the new lappie....Let the fun begin.

Its really easy to do it. My laptop came with Vista and i downgraded to XP. The drivers are in the brand website.

You don't have to wipe your computer to install XP, just make a small partition, pretty easy to do in Vista. If you need more instructions nearer the time I should be around to help if you need it.

edit: -removed backup script- this won't work copying files from vista to xp.

It's here...

I have my new lappie and now I will begin work on moving everything from the older lappie to the new one.

Hope I don't have any problems between xp and vista.

Wish me luck and look for me to ask questions and request HELP as I am just a DJ...not a cpu programer or rocket scientist.

I had that problem with my Miss's nothing a good dose of Viagra will cure, age catches up with all of us sooner or later :)

Sorry the headline was to good to respond too

WHY BUY A NEW LAPTOP JUST BECAUSE YOU CANT UPGRADE YOUR RAM???????

heres a little tip for you , go buy say a 4-8 gig pen drive... plug it in and use the "speed up my pc" feature on windows. this feature allows a pen drive or an external HDD to be used as RAM, so you can gain as much ram as you like just via your USB. there is plenty of softwares available that will create ram out of HDD space.

unless you just want to use it as an excuse to buy a new laptop, if you do then just disregard everything i said and crack on.

Did I read wrong, but doesn't item #3 have no onboard video ram?

mhhhhh..

I needed a new laptop. I have my old one working fine now but it is 5 years old, has been in hundreds of clubs, has been at hundreds if not thousands of backyard cookouts, clubs, dancehalls, caberets, block patries, and anywhere else a party could be.

Everything fails at some point. 5 years of hard use with a laptop is impressive. I play an average of 4 to 5 nights a week, every week for the past 5 years, sometimes doing 2 or 3 shows in one day.

I don't want to wait till the wheeles fall off to get a new lappie.

I now have the new one but still gig with the old one and will continue to gig with it until I get the new one EXACTLY the way I want it.

And I do mean EXACTLY!!! No compromise.

Dj Doc,
There is no video ram because I do not spin video.

Congrats City,

Man if you need support don't hesitate in contact me over msn, I will be glad to help you. Personally I do not downgrade to XP. Windows 7 is coming and maybe your laptop could have an upgrade (non cost) option to Windows 7. Anyway, I work with Windows Vista, using VirtualDJ 6.0.1 and using DEFAULT PRO SKIN (3.4) to work with... So I understand city you like 3.4, but you don't need to stick to that version just for the way you work... But you can use 3.4 if you want of course.

I have to say here, even option 3 with NO on.board video RAM, would work mixing videos and using effects and setting hardware decode too. Just need a T7200 or better Core 2 processor. P8600 is doing great job on this. T9000 based are even more than better. It isn't as fast or perform as well as an N-Vidia 9600GT, but could do the work. I use a laptop with Intel X3100 video card and could mix videos and put effects on there too. Also use 4GB and Windows Vista Business.

I recommend option 3 to DJs that couldn't go for a $2000 usd laptop. But sure a $3000 laptop do ALL fast and well, if you can afford it, you could do anything with that, and be confident your laptop could handle VirtualDJ without shooting down any windows services.

I also DO NOT recomend to use a USB-Flash Memory to have more memory RAM... USB Flash Memory is very VERY slow compared to any RAM memory module. So USB Flash memory work more like a Virtual Memory option on hard drive, than a RAM work. Remember; Fast is better when you wok with VirtualDJ Pro. 1GB is ok for audio, 2GB is ok with video using XP. If you are using Vista, double that RAM.

Cheers,
