I've had issues with Cue using the DJ i/o external sound card ever since I purchased them a year ago for my HP laptop. My laptop (new at the time) is a HP DV9620us with Vista Home Premium (32-bit), 2 gigs RAM memory, 240 GB drive, dual core 2 Ghz AMD processor.

At every gig, i would experience various glitches 6-7 times a night (sound drop-outs, distortion, app freeze-ups and crashes, etc.). I tried every conceivable sound settings in the Cue Performances tab, but that didn't help. I tried various versions of DJ i/o driver software, but it didn't make any difference. I even went to the extreme step of creating a separate boot partion on my laptop and loading Windows XP (that was a project in itself!), but the same issue resulted when I ran Cue under XP also.

I submitted this issue to the Cue forum on the www.numark.com website (FYI - that forum was shutdown in November '08), but all of their suggestions (which I listed above) did not work.

After several weeks of this frustration (and embarrasement), I decided to bypass the DJ i/o card and take the sound out from my laptop's mini-headphone jack. The problems ceased immediately. However, this left me with only a mono output for each deck.

This led me to believe the issue had something to with the DJ i/o card, and I chalked it up as being just being one of those issues that Numark would someday get around to fix....

While I was waiting (and deciding if I needed to buy a new sound card), I happen to stumble onto this forum by a Google search (why in heaven's name Numark doesn't link to it from their website, especially after they shutdown their own Cue forum, is baffling to me). Lo and behold - I read a posting on a related issue that pointed me to a site to download a free utility (DPC Latency Checker at http://www.thesycon.de/eng/free_download.shtml ) to check for latency issues on my laptop. Once I loaded it, and found the devices in Windows Device manager that were causing the latency issues, I had the issue resolved in 5 minutes!! I've had no issues on several gigs since then. Thank you Virtual DJ Forum!!!

P.S. In Device Manager, I needed to disable my network connections devices (WLAN and Network controller), Modem, and my HP Webcam to keep the DPC Latency Checker bar graphs in the green/yellow areas.

Im having problems with my audio can anybody help with that. It sounds like its under water or garbly or something. Please help thanks

I download and ran the program and like 80 of the lines were Green, 15% of the lines were Yellow and maybe % percent were Red. I didnt see that many Red lines. So is my Latency OK or should I

"Disable various devices one at a time. Try Network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices USB host controllers, etc" If so can someone explain the steps to disabling the etwork and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices USB host controllers. All help is appreciated. Someone also told me to purchase more RAM and that may stop my music from pausing and being interupted. I really do not know how to desable the above mentioned things on my laptop. can someone help me?

hi

easiest way is download the audio 8 driver.installed it thoo u dont have the audio 8 dj.then open the audio 8 dj documentation from native instruments start menu folder.theres lot of tips to get performance in the laptop.nicely shows how to disable things and much more things are there to learn about latency etc...........

Yeaj I actually figure it out. It was rather easy. Thank you very n=much for your assistance. The Latency Checker website pretty much explains it. Thanks again.

I'm totally frustrated at the NON-USE of this product that I purchased this past xmas for my 15yr old son who wants to learn how to DJ. For whatever reason the audio keeps SKIPPING continuously. Even after I d'loaded DPC Latency Checker and disabled additional components such as Wireless Modem, Printer, etc...

Here's what I'm currently running the Atomix software on:

- Compaq Presario CQ50-210US Laptop
- AMD Athlon Dual Core QL-62
- 2G RAM (1.75 useable)
- 64-bit OS
- Windows 7

Can some please HELP once & for all?

Thanks in advance!

PS... I'm new to this so please use lament terms & keep it simple (LOL)!!!

Thanks for the feedback but I don't think that's it. I checked System Req as you suggested:

SYS REQ
-------------------------------
200MB Hard Drive
1G RAM
AMD Athlon x2
Direct X Sound Card

I HAVE
--------------------------------------
148G Hard drive (114G free)
2G RAM (1.75G free)
AMD Athlon Dual Core
Conexant SmartAudio 221

I've even disabled the clock, calendar, Wifi, and changed display settings to Windows Basic. What more can I do? What ever happened to plug-n-play? I'm starting to think you need to have a computer degree just to understand the so-called basics (LOL). Sorry for the sarcasm, but I'm trying to find some humor in all this to avoid the frustration.

Again, Thanks!

You need to check each of the items listed on the above page to find and solve the cause of your latency problems.

Many laptops are built with home or office users in mind, so perform poorly for low latency audio applications such as VirtualDJ and need tweaking to work well (I.e: Remove unnecessary applications ('Bloatware') installed by the manufacturer, set to high performance rather than power saving, update the BIOS and drivers, etc.)

Seek assistance from a friend who has computer knowledge to help you.

It's really strange ..... I have a Samsung NC20 netbook which has an Atom processor, Windows XP home, 768Mb available RAM (after video sharing) so it's pretty low spec but it works perfectly with VDJ straight out of the box, even on Asio with the Denon MC6000.

You tend to find some branded laptops are overly loaded with crapware, and that the on board sound is poor quality. Some of the motherboards are poor quality too as competition between manufacturers results in cheaper components being used to drive the price down.

As has been the case with Dell lately, some of their laptops are totally useless for audio due to the construction and components but they don't care as they assume most people are buying them for youtube, office documents and browsing porn :)

As Jon says, try and find someone with PC knowledge to help you with this as there are so many scenarios that could be causing the problem.

It's certainly not Virtual DJ, that's for sure!

Latencymon does not run in XP, Vista (yuck) and Windows 7 only!

Thanks everyone... I realy appreciate the feedback.

Some of the suggestions have worked, but my VDJ continues to have a mind of its own. Somedays it works and other days it doesn't even call out of sick. No Show/No Call (LOL). Lately everything has been cool. I'm trying to catch up with a friend who DJ's for a local radio station and is familiar with the product. Hopefully, he can help fix it 100% or at least tell me what's needed to finally correct the issue.

I also think its foolish for this to not work with modern laptops, no matter how "cheap" you think the internal component are, that scream "snob" for not buying a Mac or a $600-$700 laptop.

My unit works fine save for that audio "skipping" that still happens, but I'm going to track that down today. The recommendation of disabling WiFi or any other possible internet connection is really stupid, why put the Live Search feature in the product and disable the search function and yes I know it searches your local drives for music.

I am not a computer novice and studying for my A+ and Network + as well. I will let you know if this works out completely because I have a similar laptop (AMD Dual Core, 3GB of Ram, W7 64-bit, etc).

Skipping, stuttering and other audio issues are normally caused by performance issues with your computer and/or incorrect configuration in VirtualDJ.

Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jpboggis/blogs/4094/Common_performance_issues_and_solutions.html for a list of common causes and their solutions.

NOTE: Some computers have poorly designed WiFi drivers that can cause these issues. If this is the case try updating to the latest WiFi drivers. If this does not resolve the issue and you wish to be able to use NetSearch (You are not currently a Premium Member), then you would need to either use a wired connection to the Internet, or use an external wireless router connected to your computer by Ethernet to provide the connection for you (Most WiFi routers can be configured to connect to another WiFi router via wireless.)

Well thus far this new install of the only the last version of the console software and newest drivers from Hercules, plus making sure RMX Console is the only thing on that USB Control (system resources) seems that problem as gone away even with WiFi running.

I checked with both DPC and Latency Mon and while I do get an occasional, healthly spike, there's no audio skipping. I also removed Norton Anti-Virus program which SUCKS and takes about 10-12 mins to remove so who knows what that does to your system.

The only other difference is I had to use the recovery drive in my laptop because installing a game on it crashed it so bad that it wouldn't go back into Windows. So this is a fresh Windows with all the newest updates, so maybe that helped as well. I don't know how old the Wi-Fi and other drivers were.

Sometimes things just WORK I guess. The understanding of how, I might figure out later.

I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one saying this, but using Ethernet is not possible in a real sense. I'm only 30-40 feet from the U-verse router and I don't see how using Ethernet is practical, however I do have a Buffalo Internet Converter, basically a Wireless bridge with four ports on it that I use to connect my PS2 to the router and my desktop.

I could use that, but as I said it works even with latency spikes, no skips, drop-outs, nothing. I also know my WiFi drivers were recently updated, that also might have helped.

Hi

I am really looking at getting virtual DJ 7 for my AMD 2.2ghz, 4gig ram running vista., I use external HDD, external SOund Maya44 and run denon s1000.

I have used the prog DPC Latency checker.

I have disabled all the normal items in device manager.

most of the time the laptop seems to run around 115 - 140

there is the odd, maybe every 3-5 min a spike in the reading, so far the most it has hit is 2160.

Now where do I stand with this is this good to run the program with timecode cd.

What is the normal or a good reading supposed to be around.

You will need to find an eliminate the cause of this problem (Possibly a bad driver or background application.)

Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jpboggis/blogs/4094/Common_performance_issues_and_solutions.html for a list of common causes of performance issues and their solutions.

There is a link to a utility at the bottom of this page which may help you identify the cause of the spike.

A normal good reading is all green. Occasional low yellow spikes are OK. Red spikes means that you have serious latency issues with your computer.
