Who has heard of this deck?
It looks bloody awesome!

Do you people agree that it will be the real CDJ Killer?
And is it compatible with VDJ? Because I can't see midi controller mentioned anywhere.

not it is not compatible with vdj and there is no midi function. because it´s not a midi controller or cd player. it is a digital media controller for audio files on usb storage devices. just plug and play any usb stick or usb harddisk to the cortex, conect the cortex to on a dj mixer and you can rock on.
ok, you can save the vdj timcodecd file to an usb stick and then connect the cortex to an soundcard, play the timecodefle and so on. but this makes no sense.

no, because they are totaly different. a cdj is a cd player and the cortex is a digital media controller. i had my hands on a unit at my local equipment store. feels nice, pretty sweet toy. but i don´t really know what to do with this "thing". for analog dj´ing i use my turntables and sometimes a cdj (man i hate cdj´s;-).
for digital dj´ing i use my laptop and/or timecodevinyl/-cds and/or a midi controller. i can´t belive that there is really a market for things like this in the professional dj area.
when a dj goes digital, normaly he use a mac/pc and specific software with or without aditional hardware. why he should by a hardware who dont need or is not compatible a mac/pc?

Well yeah thats what I was wondering, I couldn't see any Midi control there so i was thinking there was not much point in getting one becuase it wont work with VDJ. However it still does look cool. But like you said "i don´t really know what to do with this "thing""

Gentlemen use your mind... Just load it up with the VDJ timecode mp3 and voila a new controller for vdj. you will still need a soundcard and a mixer but it can be done. Think of the advantages if your laptop dies you still have a digital media player you can have a non standard length TC signal you would have the best of both worlds.

You CAN NOT :)
It does NOT have a CD player inside...
Its simply an mp3 player, looking good. But all it does is play mp3 files..
It can neither control any software (midi), or play timecode CDs for such means.
Its an MP3 player

Thanks for confirming that Norway.

I know someone who is doing this, he loaded the mp3 timcode diwnloaded from here and outputs the signal to a soundcard as any normal cd player would. it works well.

Doesn't make sense what Norway is saying. Any mp3 player can control VDJ through a soundcard. I can control VDJ with my mp3 player in my cell phone... control, meaning I only can hit play and stop as it's the only features on my phone.

yes YOU CAN!
just load the timecode-cd file on any usb stick or usb harddisk, connect the output from the cortex into a soundcard and you can controll vdj with a cortex hdtt 5000 just like with any cdj.

it makes no sense to do something like this. but it will work.

ah...
good point ;) wasnt thinking of that ;)
yeah, might work if you use the mp3 file in the mp3 player...
true :)
my bad

Pioneer CDJ-400
- Midi Controller (with VDJ native support)
- USB Storage Player (Hardrives, memory sticks etc)
- CD Player/ including CD-R/RW playback
- Plays MP3 from any source (CD etc)
- Sound outputs are enabled in midi mode (good soundcard)
http://www.decks.co.uk/products/pioneer/cdj400
It's a much better product in my view.

Some people dont like moving parts. Only moving part on this media player is the jog wheele and the knobs much less to go wrong.

I don't follow, which unit has more moving parts? Which parts?

Never looked inside a cd player it has many moving parts. A slot loading cd player has even more.

CD player were really reliable though, even the crapie Numark, Citronic ect dual players

Drzinc,
Ok I see where you're coming from now, but Pioneers products are very reliable and come with warranty.
Anyone who owns expensive DJ gear should also have an insurance policy, if in the unlikely event the CD player was to fail you could simply make use of the midi control mode which is an instant back-up solution, making the unit safer for live use than the Cortex HDT5000.

The Cortex looks cool, but from what I read it looks like the Pioneer does all the same stuff and has a CD drive.
The Cortex may be a little more flexible with the multiple USB ports but I think I would choose the Pioneer. The Pioneer is less expensive and gives you one more media option.
