The Cortex looks cool, but from what I read it looks like the Pioneer does all the same stuff and has a CD drive.
The Cortex may be a little more flexible with the multiple USB ports but I think I would choose the Pioneer. The Pioneer is less expensive and gives you one more media option.

+ Midi (massive plus)

+1

No doubt about it :)

Advantages of the Cortex
Minimal moving parts
Multiple media choices, (usb drives, Portable hard drive, your computer/laptop 's drive a media server)
No need to carry around cd's (a 1tb hard drive would hold all your tunes)
The world is going solid state even hard drives are moving away from spinning platters
Synergy - both vdj and the cortex can see media if set up properly (a built in safety feature if your laptop or software fails)
Why do you need a cd drive if all you would feed it is a TC CD
All this thing really needs is a midi and a bult in soundcard and it would be a killer product.

Those are two big features.

Hell, if I had a smooth voice and a winning smile I could be the next Wayne Newton.

side note ... what am I doing wrong when I quote? I selected the quote tab. odd.

Neither the CDJ 800 or the 1000 have these features and they are successfull. and 60 to 70% of people use these for DVS

Those units are untouchable though, just as the Technics 1210’s are untouchable (although to a slightly less degree).

Future Pioneer products will feature Midi and USB (and for the next few years still have an industry standard CD player), and they’ll also have an enabled sound device like the CDJ-400 if they have any sense, which they clearly do. Being the first to launch a product with some hot new technology does not guarantee that the market will invest in that product.

The Cortex will not touch the sides of the market to be quite honest. Denon’s new unit with midi is nice but they're a few years too late if they want to take away from Pioneers share of the market, the price tag also makes it less appealing.
