Click the little dot next to the search field, what do you have selected? You say you have all your music in one folder, and all your videos in one folder. You then say something about an external drive. What is that all about? Is this a laptop or desktop, your music and OS on the same drive? In the browser next to the record case, are these folders marked as favorites?

Or if like me, all your music is not so organised, you can remove certain folders from VirtualDJ database.
my folders look like this...
My Computer
- C:
--- Windows files (etc) (... and files not wanted in VDJ...)
- D:
--- DVD Drive
- e:
--- My Files
------ Lots of stuff ive downloaded thats not music...
--- My Music (has all the music)
------ Albums
------ Karaoke
------ Video
------ Archive
- f:
--- more random storage, etc
now if you point to a directory above and 'right click' then select 'Remove from search DB', then you wont have the contents of your other files cluttering up virtual DJ.
Note, VDJ will scan all zip files for music and file it can play, which might not be wanted if you have a game for example called 'Bricks.zip'. If it contains its samples in the zip as .mp3 it might get added to the search. lol

There are two ways to do this (sort of):
1) Select only the folder you want search results from on the left and rightclick then select Recurse (slow method)
2) Create a filter folder (recommended way - click the blue folder icon), e.g. 'filepath starts with "c:\users\andrew\music\cds"'
Then when you have one of these items selected and perform a search, Virtual DJ inserts a horizontal bar on the search so you can differentiate the results. Those found within your selected folder/filter will be above the bar and those not below it.
