Topic: Help with RMX and a 5.1 surround sound card please

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all im pulling my hair out here and i badly need some help, my problem is that i want the main audio to come out from my 5.1 surround sound card and the headphones to come from the rmx (i dont mind if the headphones have to come from the 5.1 card but i cant figure it out) every time i think i have it figured out i get a directx error but my direct x and rmx are fully up to date. could someone please tell me the setting to use virtual dj and the rmx to come from my soundcard and to use the headphone jack in the rmx. Im sorry if this sounds confuseing but i dont think im the only one with the problem thanks all

May I ask why you want to use your 5.1 surround soundcard, and not the one in the RMX. It will be alot easier if you use the RMX soundcard for both

All the DirectX error means is that VirtualDJ has detected something slightly wrong in your sound setup

i doun t mind what sound card i use but when i just choose the rmx i only get sound through the headphones

Hi alicaffrey

I'm having exactly the same problem. It used to work with my MK2 but since upgrading to the RMX it no longer works.

Here are a few more posts with people having similar problems, but i'm yet to find a fix.

1. http://fr.virtualdj.com/forums/96793/Hardware_Technical_Support/2_sound_cards_and_RMX.html

2. http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/95593/PC_Version_Technical_Support/No_sound_out_of_headphone.html

3. http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/101298/PC_Version_Technical_Support/Can_I_use_PC_sound_card_for_master_and_RMX_for_headphone_.html

Looks like its a prob with the RMX not allowing 2 sound cards to run simultaneously and routing any line to a secondary device for headphone preview or beat matching.

Why would you want to use a 2 soundcard setup with the RMX or MK2 when you have all you need right in the unit.

Output set to Headphones
Soundcard - RMX or MK2 -- depending on your unit.

Soundcard channels -- Master 1&2 // Headphones 3&4

Problem solved.

And please register your serials for your software and download the latest version of the software - 5.2.1.
Also, might want to check the Hercules website for the latest drivers - both MK2 and RMX. - just released.

To the post above me
Its very annoying i thought there would be no problems with this just plug and play.went :

Seems i have a temp fix anyway i went:
Headphones
4.1 card
chose my sound card as the device and chose the last option.

I then plugged out my rear speakers and pluged my headphons in there.

Try that hope it helps let me know how ye get on

2 posta above beleave me this doesnt work...
We are trying to use pc speakers 5.1 surround sound pc speakers

how do i register my serial

Go to the "Modify my profile" tab, and enter your serial number in of the RMX drivers/console edition (the serial number thats on the CD sleeve that came with the RMX)

*edit* just seen you have found it, lol

I'll bet its to avoid unplugging their PC from the speakers Chris....ya know someone using a desktop PC and mixing for fun, rather than professionally....

Then they would setup VirtualDJ to use the onboard sound card and not the RMX or MK2. The units are only good as controllers and not soundcards then.

When using a 2 sound card combination you only get access to Channels 1&2 of each card. By design the headphone jack on the RMX and MK2 are channels 3&4 ... so using a 2 sound card setup with either unit eliminates the use of the Headphone jack from the unit.

Agreed, a Hercules Steel or Numark Total Control would be better suited for those types of set ups.

Or a MK2 as this setup did work on this.

This is because not all of us have spare speakers or the right connecting ones to plug into the back of our RMX.

I have a 5.1 setup which is plugged into the back of PC and is used for surround sound in my front room, as I watch films from my PC onto TV.
This is the reason for me wanting the sound to come from 5.1 and headphones, one for main sound and the headphones for beat matching.

So is this not actually possible? If not i'll break out the MK2.

Thanks in advance. ;0)

If you must use the 2 sound card setup then my suggestion is find something like this -

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102973

Use the following settings --

Output - Headphones
Soundcard - 2 cards

Card 1 - PC soundcard
Card 2 - RMX/MK2

Channels - Master / card 1 // Headphones / card 2

Plug the adapter to the channels 1&2 of the RMX/MK2

connect headphones to adapter ....

Excellent , will order one of these now. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem.
I use a Desktop PC, the RMX, and the speakers system is connected to the SB card of my desktop PC.

I cant' use the headphones in any configuration.

I'm reading the forum ..and I found that the solution is "buy an adapter" !! CRAZY!!

I've found the solution like above by myself, with the adapter, but in my opinion is very frustrating, can't use a sound card (like the RMX is), or better...i can use ONLY in some configuration.

I find not correct from Hercules (or better Guillemot Corporation) or Atomix Productions make us to spend other money also if the adapter is very cheaper.

Omar.

i have a 5.1 x fi titanium sound card.can anybody help me to configure it so that i cn hear both my speakers and headphones to mix as a professional dj.

Hi Ghost.

Which version of VDJ are you using?
