Topic: How did you come up with your DJ name?!? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I have been known by the name of City for a very very very long time (since I was 12 yrs old). When I started DJ'ing at age 17, I had no idea what to call myself. The first party I did, I had no DJ name, or so I thought.

People in the streets were already calling me DJ CITY so it kinda stuck.

I got the name "City" by being from N.Y.C. up in the Bronx and traveling all thru the City even to places where us dudes from the Bronx should not go. I did most of my traveling alone, no crew or gang...just lil ol me by my lonesome.

That's how I acquired or was dubbed the name "DJ CITY".

So........
What's your story?!?

learned the hard way - used real name once on air at college radio station and had drunks showing up at my door asking about concert tickets. since then, and for the last 11 years at the club its just been "J". i look around confused when someone calls my real name now.

em, my names dave lol

I played arcade games machines in late 80's and early 90's and was very good at them, so my name was always on the top screen "ALF", since you had only 3 letters for signature and I watched that series Alf on TV, was very popular at the time. So first kids started to call me that, and then my friends and owner of my first club in 93'.
Many people do not know my real name ;)

My DJ name used to be Iceman. I even had drops that said "ooooh Iceman you're so cool." lol. Cheesy I know! But a great mentor of mine (And awesome voice talent) named Greg Murray suggested that if I want to branch out into other things musically to use my real name, so I changed it to DJ Derrick E.

My real name is John Shersby... not much to tell really!

Fits His Face: Scottish slang for "You know who I mean..Yes him"

Mine was given to me by a DJ friend over 20 years ago. He said he was anointed by the International DJ Console to pass out appropriate DJ nicknames. Hence, Tear 'Em Up Terry was born.

In high school I started training jujitsu and thought I was a little bad ass. When DJing I would hold my fists in the air and bounce it with the beat. With those two things I was called "DJ Fist". After loosing the djfist.com to another guy when I didn't renew and another guy local started calling himself that, I decided to just be myself. Let's see someone named John try to call themselves Paulie!

I even saw one of MY cds with all of the inside cover info changed to this guy!

I never give my last name anywhere because I don't want people showing up at my house. It is just my first name.

well mine is prettttyyy looonnngg story..well at my old highschool..all of my homies at school were like more than 10,sleepy,creeps,flaco,chuey,pooh,brown eyes, shy boy,SHY GIRL,theres more but not the point..well everybody had a nick name but ME...well in my freshmen year i was very very chubby..so one of the homeboys said"ey homie you look like a teletubie brown version"..so everybody started laughing kuz teletubies are chubby OR FAT..and they started calling me teley...so yea my nickname is teley=DJ TELEY..

Well my First name is James, but everyone of my friends since school has called me either Jim or Jimmy( I have been called other names too, lol). My surname starts with a B.

My family and girlfriend are the only ones that call me James now,

My friends actually dubbed me "TAO" back in HIGH SCHOOL because my last name was a mouthful to say.

So it is just my intials of my real name.

TAO pronounced "TAY-O"

Luckily it has worked out for my performance name!

DJ TAO of TAOTRONX

(Dee Jay TAY-O of TAY-O tronx)

OU812NP'D? :P

I'm all over the 'net as Soulman or DJSoulman, but, I've never used it for DJing purposes. It was just an anonymous name to use on the 'net.

Never really had a DJ name then last year, just for a laugh, I started using There's A Mouse In The House. Eek! :-) for Ibiza gigs for obvious reasons (and it was easy to remember). However, in September this year I stumbled on the available Web Address http://www.deejayles.com/ so bought it and now telll people I'm deejayles.com when they ask LOL :-)

Oops!

When i was in school i used to be a fat kid!!! and everyone i know called me piggy!! my little brother was known as piglet!!! so i thought of my DJ name as DJ Pigz! although when i was a teen i used to be into drugs and it was i bit of a pain as most people thought i was a grass or that i was frendly whit the police!!!!! (as every1 calls them pigs in England!) and far from it i hate them!!!! but the name just stuck so its DJ Pigz!!! altho i have thought of a cool vocal that goes like (from dizzy rascal song) woop woop thats the sound of the police woop woop thats the sound of DJ pigz!! what u guys think! (even tho the music im into is not RnB or rap but Happy Hardcore!!!!)

Hi, my nick name "xonor" comes from the "sonor drums", 'cause i play drums, and i have a sonor snare drum.

My dj name it's very curious, but in spanish.
My real name it's Pablo, in english Paul, and it's pronounced "pol".
So.. that's my dj name.... DJ Pol.

It's pronounced in english, but writen in spanish.

Sometimes I catch flack over my name cause they say it lacks originality. Its pretty easy to guess where it came from but the whole story is that years ago before I ever started DJ'ing I did lighting for live bands. I brought a friend of mine into the booth one night and he saw a DJ mixer and was like "Crossfader....that would be a cool name huh?" I laughed and shook it off, but years later when I first started DJ'ing, my boss at the time asked what I wanted to be called. My friend who was in the booth with me that day was in Iraq for the war at the time, so in his jonor I chose DJ Crossfade.

My nickname on here is Graomi (said Grey O Me) which was given to me by an old flat mate called bob or Bobalina as i called him as my real first name is Graham.

My DJ Name, John Lime came from the fact that I have always hated my first and last name, John is my middle name and Lime comes from a very wasted moment during my uni years when i picked up a bottle of lime cordial and shouted "LIME!" I then used to shout it out of windows all the time (sad but true). Then I started a small promotions company called lemon and lime promotions as I had a yellow van to carry around gear in. so together we were lemon and lime.

Man, what was i smokin at the time......to be honest i dont remember!!!
