When I record my mixes, they appear in my folder under wav. format, but they won't play in any application or upload onto itunes... I have a Mac if that helps?

wav = a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard for storing an audio bitstream on PCs. You have a Mac, which may explain why.
Next time you could record into mp3 to avoid this.
For now since I know you want that mix, try convert to mp3. I'm also fairly new to Mac so the only program I use to convert files into mp3 is audacity for mac http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac
open audacity after installing, import your mix, select all, file export selection as mp3. It'll prompt you for lame encoder(plug n for mp3's) download it below.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3
ps. if you're looking to have your mac set up to play WAV files by default. I think there're some application that can allow this. I don't know them. Maybe someone else can suggest.
