Topic: Ideas for a St. Patty's Day Bar Gig????

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Been searching and searching this one and decided to start a new thread. I have been a mobile DJ for awhile now but just started getting into the Club/Bar scene. I have a regular sat. nite gig at a pool hall/bar thats been going really well and the bar owner has asked me to do the St. Patricks Day show this year. I'm hoping some of you pros out there would be willing to give me some ideas on what has worked for you in the past as far as drinking games/cheers/contests in this type of venue. I usually play mostly Top 40/Hip Hop with some rock thrown in. I have purchased alot of the standard irish tunes for this holiday but I really want the folks to have a good time on that night!!! Any ideas you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanx in advance for all your help!!!

Don't play O Danny Boy. Well maybe the last song. There has been a backlash, started by some Irish Pub in NY. The song was written by some Brit, that had never sat foot on Irish soil. Plus, he said it is mostly sang at funerals, so he has banned it in his pub.

I am African American, and used to play in a Irish pub 3 nights a week. I can tell you that you don't have to do anything special on that day. They don't need any coaxing to get drunk and party. I have 45 Traditional Irish hits, and a couple by Denis Leary. I also have some Irish ambient clips from PromoOnly to throw up on the screen. We are having a 3 day bash at my club, I will only be here for 2. So Just play some party music, and they will do the rest.

always wear a kilt , w/o underwear.... bring lotsa potatoes 'n cabbage, play when irish eyes are smiling way outta tune on yer bagpipe

cliche's are COOL

Bring a large screen TV and a DVD of the Quiet Man, and lots of Harp Lager and Guiness. That should take care of at least two hours of your night....OH and play a lot of House Of Pain along with U2. Night should be pretty much geezed up by that time....

I am strickly video in the clubs and will be playing a "pub" on St Paddy's day.

I looked around unitl I found a really nice DVD of performances of Irish Sing-along videos (with or without lyrics). The videos also incorporate veiws of patrons singing inside of popular irish pubs and their scenic countryside.

I'll mix this in from time to time with the rest of my typical music video show selections . It'll add a real nice touch to the show.

Can't do that at my club, the girls are touching my mic, as it is. Wait a minute, I like that. Where can I get one of those kilts?

Some contests would be,Irish joke telling. Keep it clean, screen the jokes if neccessary. Irish jig dancing contest.Another is a person who has the most green clothing "The most wearing of the green". The biggest leprachaun contest. I find that the best music is brought in from the patrons themselves who have thier select songs that they know and sing along. They love to share them with everyone at this time.
