It's not a guarantee of 'lifetime' updates. However, since the VirtualDJ product has been on the market every upgrade to date has been FREE.

Does the purchase of VDJ allow for a back-up install on another machine?

EULA allows for 2 installs of the software per serial number.
That's 2 working installations. You can install and uninstall as many time as you need to for maintenance. But no more than 2 installations can exist at the same time per serial number.

There has to eventually be a cap on the Free updates though right? For example when VDJ eventually comes out with 10.0 or something major?

Here is another question as a follow up from above....
If you need to change one of the computers ( For instance I am building one right now but wanted my two laptops to hold my keys) how do you resend the key/keys to be able to reapply them to the new computer/computers?

I hate that. Windows and Mcrosoft Office is like that. You have to get an internet connection OR you can use dial-up. You have to activate it within 30 days. If you keep the same software over time, and you install it on multiple machines (lets say you bought multiple computers over time) it will lock and will not activate. You have to call Microsoft. I'm glad VDJ isn't like that. You have DJs changing machines sometimes every month. lol
Also last night at 2am, there was a DJ mixing LIVE on the radio from Safari Night Club in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. I heard the "put your hands up in the air" effect...I was like VIRTUAL DJ!! lol He was doing some off the chain mixes!
