Topic: V5: bug: some genres not imported from tags - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

I selected 4000 files, did file info/year/genre/etc in the context menu and to my surprise the scanner
coudn't get the genre on 1/3 of the files. They all have a filled genre, I checked in foobar2000 and could
not see a erason why the genre couldn't be read by VDJ.

I am having id3 tag issues. I can see a song in a folder and the tag will be wrong. If I click on file info the correct information is showing but V5 shows different information. It seems to only be on songs that are in 2 different folders but the same song and ID information. Example would be Sexyback by J.T. It may be in Mainstream Radio 2005-10 and Urban Radio 2005-07 but it will be wrong in one of the folders. Suggestions?

You mean the Genre on the list on the left?? If so it takes awhile for VDJ to generate this list.

No I mean the genre column in the databse display. This column is empty for certain files and the file info don't display the genre either.

right click files, and choose : file info>> get genre/year etc

I did that, read the first post! The scanner just won't read genre on some files.

Can you give an example of what the data looks like in these files? Does it have weird characters? Are there multiples listed?

mp3 or ogg ?

mp3.

Ok I know abit more about this problem.

It seem it affects only files that are ID3V2.4 and with multiple genres or spaces in genre. Examples:

"Techno;Electro" (<- it appears like that in foorbar2000 but appears at Techno"antislashantislash"Electro in mp3tag)
"Deep House"

"antislashantislash" are just two concatenated antislashes without both "

Even stranger is that the genre with space is recognized if the tag is V2.3

As most of my collection contains multiple genres got from discogs, It would be nice if 5.1 corrected that small problem (ie multi-valued genre tag,
the way foobar2000 handle them which I believe is in the spec, and spaces in genres.)

you have to load them once in the player than vdj see`s them!!!!

It does support multiple genres and they need to be separated by a semi-colon ( ; ) and yes it helps if they get loaded in the deck on some.

Virtual DJ5 is not reading my ID3 tags either and they where generated with mp3Tag. Can anyone help?

Hey spinnaJ, i do not need some one to tell me to update my profile, so would you please stay on topic. as the prvious posts stated i need help with the id3 tage and genre. Virtual DJ will not read the Genre from the ID3 tags. So if you or someone can help me that would be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!!

Gold9201 - the point of updating your profile is that you still show Home Edition as your registered product. If you have purchased the Pro Version then update your profile with that serial - https://www.virtualdj.com/fusers/modifuser.html

It helps recognize you as a licensed Pro User and avoid the "Crack" questions and my question of are using the "Demo"

No for your problem.
Are the tags in question showing up in the Genre field if you right click on the track and choose File Info ?

Virtual DJ only supports multiple tags where seperated by ; and does not read the second tag for the first time until you load it on a deck.

You can use a filter folder to find all your multi-genre files (if the data has been imported from the tag and properly formatted) by using the following filter.

Filter - genre contains ;

I hope this helps and gets you on track.

cstoll, Thank You for the filter folder lesson. And no my Genre does not show up if I do the Filie Info thing you said to do, no the genre does not show up.

Even under the Genre field box there isn't anything showing in the (Tag: ) section?

What are the files? Are they MP3?
