I'm wondering if there is a quick or even a batch way of moving or copying the comments tag over to the key tag that VDJ uses?
I'm sure most Mixed In Key users will appreciate the ability to do this :D

You have your keys stored in the comment field?
Posted Sun 19 Aug 07 @ 6:16 pm
Yea, Mixed In Key can write them there for you, but since VDJ's Key field is only written to the db.xml files, I was wondering if there was a way to move them all from the comments field into VDJ's database. On a slightly different note, can the skins display the Key field on them anywhere? I don't think i read anything about it in the Update userguide that was made available (which is a brilliant help btw)
Edit: I've just used the multi - select of files, then clicked upon "Comment from Tag" which brought in the comments tags fine, but has added a 'ÿ' before all of the comments. So my previous comment was '3A' and now it shows 'ÿ3A'.
However, this 'ÿ' doesn't show in a tag editor, so I'm wondering if it's something with the script to copy the comments tag over to the VDJ DB.XML. It DOES however show up in the "File Infos" box where it loads up the data from the tag.

Sorry no suggestions. I have a similar problem. I have "mixed in key" write the key to the end of the song title and would love a way to batch move them all to the key column in VDJ. i.e. Shakira - Hip Don't Lie - 7A. Shakira in the artist column and then Hip Don't Lie - 7A in the title column.
I"ve started to edit them on the fly when I play them during practice sessions but it's going to take a loooooonnggg time.

USE A FREE WORKING SOLUTION that is not only the BEST keydetection out there, but also the FASTEST ;)
Mixed in key is crap compared to Mixmeister (both performance and detection)
Use the FREE never expiring demo of Numark Mixmeister, and get your keys...
It writes automatically to tag, and VDJ reads automatically
Sweet, fast and beautiful ;)

Cheers Norway :)
I'll start using that now, as I've found how to get the keys into VDJ. I had some done, but I'm getting used to VDJs tagging features, and have them in properly now. It was my fault, as I'd had the directory scanned and forget to use the Genre/Year/Etc from tag.
Looks like I have some re-scanning to do :D

And when you are ready, use the Camelot Key system to mix
You are mixing harmonically when you subtract one (-1), add one (+1), or stay in the same number.
In other words 12A is harmonic to 11A, 1A and 12B.
And DONT FORGET (what most do forget that start mixing with keys), mixing harrmoic all the time gets boring, so you need to ELEVATE every now and then by using a MODULATION (harmonic lift, feels like a lift on the dancefloor, yet its harmonic)
Thats done by (+7) on the chart above
(this trick is the MOST overlooked on on harmonic sites such as Mixed In Key etc... )
And its a very NEEDED trick (specially on house/dance etc), to LIFT the atmosphere every now and then
(as key mixing can tend to sound like "one song going on for ever" since keymixing sound soooo damn good)
Other Modulation that can be done, is add 2 and stay in same letter, or go from minor to major in staying in the same note: Gm to GM, but these last two modulations, don't sound as good.
And for those just reading this thread... : KEY MIXING is IT! ;)
Avoid those sour mixes... and step up to the PRO level of harmonics ;)

Haha Norway, You've gone off on one! Great work, I have the Camelot circle from the MixedInKey website, as it's easier to follow with the words all being written the correct way up. :)
It can be found at:
