Hey,
I want to use VDJ primarily for some DJing and recording my favortite tunes as set ...
Now, here is my question ...
When using the build in recording feature of VDJ I can choose if I want to record the mix as one file or have it cut into separate files on crossfades ... now there is that issue that if you choose to cut it in separate files you always end up with tiny gaps when playing these files in a playlist or on a recorded cd. If you choose to leave it as one, you have no chance to skip tracks or "navigate" fast.
My suggestion would be to also add an option to create a .cue file containing the information when a crossfade has been completed. This way, you have the mix as one file (no gaps) and you are still able to add artist/title information to the .cue file. Furthermore, if one wants to have it cut into separate tracks, he or she can still do that with freeware tools, e.g. winamp or so.
How is your opinion on this?

This could be a good idea... even if I divide the mix only when I've recorded it, because I don't use the crossfader, and I want to divide mixes my way.

Nobody else has an opinion on this?

Sounds like a good idea. If this does get implemented, I would like to see a cuesheet creator with a wave editor for users recording one large file for external mixer users. In the meantime, I think a plugin for foobar2000 called foo_cue_ex is able to losslessly merge split mp3 files, so that they remain gapless and create a proper cuesheet for them. Although I have never tried this method so am unsure if that is entirely accurate.

There is already an Option for recording as Bin/Cue.
Under Record choose Burn CD and select Split Record
Now your Mix will be written to a .bin File with a Cuesheet, everytime the Crossfade
is completed the next Track will be written to the Cuesheet.

In VirtualDJ 4 you can record to cue/bin, but you must split the tracks manually by pressing the cut button. Which means you have to go out of the effects browser, samples or filebrowser panel and go into the recording one to press cut.

allright, I didn't know that ...
so record as CD will create the .bin file ... but I didn't find any slit-setting there or will the auto-split from the record as file will do that?
(I'm not on my PC at the moment otherwise I would try it out right now)

Under recording options, choose burn cd. There is a scissors button next to the start button. Everytime you want to split track you must press it.

Thats a bummer :-)
looks like i'll just import the wave file into Auditon and do it manually little bit more time, but then i can concentrate on playing music instead of worrying about when to cut the track specially when u use alot of loops and samples in your mix thats 1 less thing u dont need to worry about
Cheers

So it is basically just a matter of making the split / cut-on-crossfade option available in the cd-recording menu and let it write the cue sheet (or let it "klick" on the scissor automatically ;)

As I promised, I just bought V5.
Will you consider my feature request for 5.1?

if you record you split files as .wav fromat, not mp3, when you burn them you wont have any gaps in between the tracks.
and i like your idea too.

maybe that would be a way too, but ...
- the auto-cut feature is already implemented
- the cue sheet writing feature is implemented
- the record to a .bin file is implemented
- writing mp3s is implemented
it can't be that hard to combine them. Am I wrong?

why not just use nero burning software and split the tracks where you want and then do a 0 second pause between tracks.

@Mumpi
when burning on a CD as an audio CD just specify 0sec gaps starting at track2 and so on until the last track. This works well in Nero although if you really want to do some manual work you can buy wavelab and spit your tracks exactly where you want in an audio montage. but the later suggestion costs some good $$. I recommend the first.

I'm glad this was raised as I didn't know bout the cue sheet function already integrated. I have a designated shortcut to allow me to cut the mix where I want.
Having used this many times I would suggest splitting at the end of 32beat patterns and if possible to split when there is less sound. I find that when you have things banging there is more chance to hear the little clip noise in between tracks. Of course the other factors involved are burning software and also the player playing the burnt mix. In my car I never hear noticeable cut, yet the cd player at work will have a more noticeable pause between tracks despite how well I re-seam things.
