to do this you need virtual dj pro :)

and a 4.1 usb soundcard , so you can have one ouput for main and one for headphones

perhaps you should aslo look at the mk2 dj console ,as it allows prelistening and gives you special edition of home , vdj that can prelisten

oo yea thanks a lot
i know that i need Pro but i dint knowed for SoundCard 4.1
thanks again
the Mk2 Dj Console looks Proffesional!

In fact the mk2 looked more to toys but it do all the job if u wish to start with only this unit:) A mixer, soundcard, midi controller all into one. And it came with the special home edition too (djc edition) n which u could upgrade for a discount ltr when u ready for bigger thingy:)

I too am having problems with prelistening. It was suggested that I get a 5.1 usb soundcard. I do have one. Soundblaster doesn't seem to work so I suggest to not buy. I'm thinking of getting an ASIO approved soundcard.

VirtualDJ Version 5.0. Demo.

Same here. I DL vdj 5 i have a Gigaport AG usb audio interface will this allow me to pre listen to my songs before i play them. Or will i need a different ext sound card......Thx

Hello, so what you guys are saying is that with the mk2 you can listen to one track in the headphones while another track is being played through the speakers is that correct? As i have the mk1 and a laptop and i am unable to do such a thing so if i purchase the mk2 will i be able to listen to one track in the headphones while another track is being played through the speakers.

Let me know thanks

I don't get why thats not possible... I use the same setup for my sets. One computer is for backup though. Have you checked the headphone volume on the mixer. Can you listen to one channel but not the other. Do you have the MK2 as part of the setup.

FATKATZDJ lol! i looked at your profile. Thanks for responding. The 5.1 soundcard doesnt have a phono socket so that is why i can't use that. The mixer i use is a citronic 8 channel and the headphone part is for the room i think as it is not directed onto a particular channel so that is why i need another product for the pre listening part. Now when i try to pre listen it does'nt move anyway never mind i can't hear it is that supposed to happen. Blimey the amount of stress setting all this up i'm working tonight please all pray for me.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL THE BEST FOR 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by phono socket you mean RCA connectors (1 red for right, 1 white for left)?

You laptop will have 1/8" headphone jacks which are stereo. Just get yourself some cheap 1/8 > RCA adapters first and then connect front to channel 1-line in and rear to channel 2 - line in. in vdj you need to configure it for the 4.1 surround sound card option and then you will have independant outputs

when playing a track on either deck in vdj, and then 'listen' the sound for listen will go to the channel output which is 'not in use'. so if your on deck a, you will hear the sound output in channel 2 of the mixer.

if listen doesnt even start that means you have no free channels, so one of two things: you arent configured in 4.1 surround mode in vdj so it thinks you only have one channel -or- you are playing a track on each deck in vdj so you have no free channels to listen on.

Hi PAZ75 thanks for response i did mean my headphone jack hole in laptop and i did try using and config my laptop to recongnise the 5.1 sound card but the 5.1 soundcard does not have a headphone jack hole so i think i might have to purchase the 4.1 you are talking about.

whats the exact model of the laptop? i can check it out online and tell you what its got and/or what you need

Hi PAZ75 i did'nt say that the 5.1 soundcard is an external usb

i am using an Inspirion 1300 i also have an external hard drive with all music on.

Thanks

ah, ok. you dont need to buy anything then... 5.1 surround sound card which is external usb will do the job just fine. try putting VDJ in External mixer setting using the ASIO driver. if you put your surround sound card model i can confirm that. but these days, more or less all external cards use ASIO (its better performance). then you use RCA jacks on outputs 1 and 2 to the deck one-line input of the mixer and outputs 3 and 4 to deck 2-line input. everything i said before will then apply.

theres no difference between 4.1 surround and 5.1 surround. it just means how many outputs. 4.1 means 2 front, 2 rear, 1 sub. 5.1 means the same, but just add 1 centre channel. since you need only 4 mono (which equals 2 stereo) outputs, we only say 4.1 on VDJ because thats the minumum you need. but usually this is for onboard soundcards. my guess is try ASIO first and see if that works. If not, then put VDJ in the 4.1 mode.
