It's very stylish but certainly overpriced (if it's still that price 5 months later) because it carries the name Sony and Vaio. IMO there's not really much point in having such high resolutions (monitor) with a midrange card unless you need the extra screen estate for tasks such as programming, everyone has their own preference though. Although I suppose such a screen would be good if you get a blu-ray drive fitted as standard. I think Acer are selling such laptops for under $2500. 1080p movies on a laptop, very nice.

Guys,
So, what would you guys say is the best bang for buck right now with laptops? I am looking to buy one right now but am not sure as to which way to go. I can spend as much as $2000 maybe a little more. It will be used for video. Thanks.

I think you don't have to spend that much, just get some Intel Core 2 CPU, 2Gb of ram, big hard disk (consider external also) and good video card as 7600GT, 8600GT or ATI X1700 with dedicated video ram and you're ready to mix ;) You can find this for 1200-1500$.

Okay, found an HP dv 9500 series, core 2 duo 1.8ghz, 667 mhz clock speed, 2 gig ram, Nvidia 8600m gs with 256 ddr3 memory, 240 gig 5400rpm drive, 5.1 realtek hd audio, firewire, usb 2.0, HDMI, s-video for external monitor, sd card reader, 8 speed light scribe dual layer dvd +/-rw, 17" 1680 resolution screen, vista home premium, only $1299.00 plus $199.00 extra for 3 year full replace walk-in warranty.....add another $199.00 for 4 gig ram
I found it at Fry's Electronics and they even let me load VDJ in the store on their demo and tried it out. Played with it for about 30 minutes and it worked flawlessly as best I could tell (no external monitor or sound card). The video transitions were smooth and there were no audio pops, clicks or studders best I could tell (again running through the build in speakers).
What do you guys think......I have a week to keep checking while I wait for the bank to clear my check, but I think I found my lappy.

Everex is strictly a walmart brand that i would only use for simple tasks... NOT video
the AMD processor heats up more, takes more battery, is slower... im just weary
its your business, only use the best - reputation is on the line
im still running on pen. 4 tho and DO NOT do video
anyone recommend a Mac/Macbook Pro?
