I have a very important Demo tomorrow and I can't get the preview to work with my headphones. Anyone that knows about or uses the Total Control and DJ IO please help...
Setup details:
Computer: Macbook Pro running Windows XP via Bootcamp :: Yes running Virtual Vinyl in Windows XP not Mac OSX
Program: Virtual Vinyl
Soundcard: Virtual Vinyl
Decks: 2 Pioneer CDJ 1000's
Mixer: Pioneer DJM 600
MIDI Controller: Numark Total Control
Extra Souncard: Numark DJ IO
Ok I just purchased the DJ IO today because I could not figure out how to preview my upcoming track. I'm not sure if I have it hooked it up wrong or what but I cannot get the preview to work. I have never used Virtual Vinyl (VDJ) at a live gig and have only toyed around with it at home, but I am familiar with most DJ equipment and terms.
Note: I have the video side all hooked up and working correctly, I just need help with the sound and preview.
How should I have everything hooked up? Currently I have all of my RCAs going into my Virtual Vinyl Soundcard and out to my mixer. I'm getting sound on my speakers but again can't figure out how to preview with the DJ IO.
Thanks in advance,
Charlie Five

This is it below
Numark DJ I/O audio interface
3. OUTPUT 1 – This stereo RCA connection will output the Master Mix from your computer. Please use a
stereo RCA cable to connect this output to a powered speaker or amplifier system
4. OUTPUT 2 – This stereo RCA connection will output the Cue Mix from your computer for monitoring
purposes. Please note that the Cue Mix is also output through the Headphone Output on the front

Thanks for the diagram.
I'm using Timecode with the Virtual Vinyl Soundcard. Everything is hooked up through my mixer with the master volume and booth monitor also hooked up to the mixer (both channels for VV and both throughs in case I want to play a normal CD and bypass the program). I do have the 1/4 headphone jack on the front of the IO connected to my headphones and the usb in the computer, and thats it.
I need to output the sound from the IO to somewhere? Guess Im not understanding what else needs to be plugged in...

CHARL1E F1VE, only output 1 stereo RCA should go into the Virtual Vinyl soundcard. I beleive output 2 should go on a different chanel on your mixer for the monitors. Give it a try!

Again thanks for the help. Are you using the IO or just trying to help me troubleshoot?
I know there are people using the Total Control, IO and Timecode. How is everything hooked up.

IO does not have inputs, so it can not be used with timecode.
You need a soundcard with two stereo inputs :)

What are you not previewing through the Pioneer DJM 600?
Don't understand why you would use the crossfader of VDJ/TotalControl if you have an external mixer?
Disable the crossfader on the TC by setting the Crossfader value in the Config -> Options to DISABLED. Now do all your previewing through the Pioneer DJM 600 like you would anything else.
Oh and by the way the TC crossfader now can be used to manually crossfade the video and not effect the audio if you have the Link Crossfader selected in the Config -> Video tab.
No reason for having the Numark I/O box and setup VV per the recommended connection diagram as you had originally.

Ok, this is what I'm looking for. NO I/O! Got it. Just bought it yesterday, when I couldnt't figure it out. They weren't sure either at the DJ store so they should return it.
Well I wanted to use the Total Control to Crossfade the videos in, as well as using the other MIDI features, instead of using keyboard shortcuts. If I disable the Crossfader value in Config how do I transition the video?

At your current setting, here is how it will work :
- Your prelisten, EQ, gain and AUDIO crossfade will be done at the Pioneer mixer
- Video crossfade (ONLY) will be done at the total control.
So you need to map the midi output from the total controls crossfader to video crossfade (ONLY).
You do this my enable midi in controller setup, and disable the Total Control (reallly disabling the default mapper).
And then map midi manually for the TotalControl.
you can map Video crossfade to the crossfader, and other functions to other buttons (for example video effects, cues etc).
Since the DJM600 dont sent midi signals, it can not crossfade the video, or control any other software features.
So you need to use one crossfader for audio (Pioneer) and one for video (TotalControl).
Unless you want to have two channels on the Pioneer all open, and crossfade BOTH video and audio at the same time with the TotalControl (also an option).
A different solution would be to sell your DJM600, and upgrade to DJM800 (expensive) or Ecler Nuo4 (cheaper), both having a real hardware crossfader (audio) that will also send midi at the same time (video crossfade in software).
Hope that helps :)

Yes Norway! Thank you.
I might just break the bank and buy the Nuo 4 today. I am just trying to get it to work as I have a Demo tonight, although I just heard it prob will be pushed back to tomorrow so I may have more time.

This is what I want to do to eliminate confusion.

Well if you want to control video and audio on SAME crossfader, just connect your soundcard outputs from Numark VV box, into two SEPERATE channels at the Pioneer Mixer, leaving both channels all open, and crossfader on middle.
This way you can prelisten and use EQ's on the Pioneer Mixer. (pluss gain, FX etc).
And use the total control as crossfader only, for audio/video as it is.. In software.
But there are great advantages of having two crossfaders, one for audio one for video..
You can tease the guests by dropping (muted) video images, and you can mix loops audio only (giving the video input later in the mix) etc.-

For the two separate crossfaders you shouldn't need to do disable the TotalControl from it's default mapper.
Try the option I gave you which is set the Crossfader in the Options tab to DISABLED then in the Video tab set the LINK CROSSFADER checked. Now the TotalControl crossfader does nothing to the audio but will crossfade the video.
Give it a try.

Thanx for the tip Cstoll ;)
Even better way to disable audio crossfade, and use video crossfade only...
No need for manual mapping

But this is where his problem is that the PFL won't go to the MIXER because the VV Crossfader will be to the channel currently live and nothing will be sent to the second channel. Until the crossfader is moved to the second channel.
The only way this would work is using a different OUTPUT option where he can set VV Box Channel 1 as the MASTER OUT and Channel 2 as HEADPHONES.
So lets say VV Box Ch 1 is MIXER Ch 3 and VV Box Ch 2 is MIXER Ch 4
MIXER Ch 3 - FADER Wide Open
MIXER Ch 4 - FADER Closed and PFL active
Now all VV MASTER OUT when crossfading will go through MIXER Ch3
When VV PFL is active the preview will be heard on MIXER Ch4

Thanks again. I have major ants in my pants right now so I think I'm just going to get the Nou 4. I think it will be an easier transition for me moving to all video and VDJ at once. My demo got pushed back till tomorrow evening so I now have a little more time to map it and get used to it. $$$ though...

Here are the 3 different XML configurations from the plugin/external tools.
I don't use a NUO so don't know the differences, maybe some one can elaborate on each.
I wouldn't worry to much about the version numbers since all a MIDI mapping XML files.
