Well, today my database was (AGAIN) corrupted and i (AGAIN) lost all of my data. I always use the db backup and repair tool. That tool gave me this error.
Removing and redownloading helps nothing, reboot helps nothing. I'm getting quite fed up with re-analysing time after time.

Removing and redownloading VirtualDJ is unlikely to fix most problems, unlike Windows on the other hand. You'll have to go into C:/Program Files/Virtual DJ and delete your corrupted database manually, or try repairing it using the guidance of a tool like Dreamweaver or even notepad and Internet Explorer will get you a working database again.

VanStino - what happened when the corruption occurred? Did VDJ crash and that cause the corruption? Did you have a bad shutdown of VDJ? What recently changed on your machine? You say that it was AGAIN corrupt and you AGAIN lost data -- HOW often is this happening?
Also, there obviously something else going on if the application I wrote all of a sudden also is corrupted? When did you last do a scandisk and defrag on your C: drive.
But to address your issue more directly - there should be 2 .bkp files in your c:\\program files\\virtualDJ directory - 1 is the last backup from the tool I wrote.
Another question - which mode are using my tool in - 1 was where my tool is used to launch VDJ and it does a check of the DB prior to and after each use of VDJ -- OR -- you have to manually run the tool in order for the backups to get generated.
Here to help just need more information.

No that is what the tool I wrote and VanStino is using is designed to avoid the user from having to do. There is more to the problem.

I always use the tool before running VDJ. I never run VDJ directly anymore.
Disk Defrag - Yesterday
Scandisk - Yesterday
No crash occured, i just closed VDJ and it said "Internal db corrupted! Repair/replace?" Clicked replace and it showed that message. Now when starting up using the tool i get that error every time and VDJ doesn't start.
I've had similar issues with the db before, and your tool saved my skin there :)

OK, is the .bkp file still there for VirtualDJ Database?
If so, delete your .xml file. And, Copy the .bkp to a new file and rename the new file VirtualDJ Database (-----).xml Replace the ---- with what ever your login name for XP is? Did that make sense?
Let me know the results.

Yeah that worked & fixed it temporarily. Now it's back again. I'll try again.
Fixed again :)

Good - I know why the error occurred and I am working on a fix to my tool so that won't happen again. Glad to know it worked and look for an update soon.

You should use the database autobackup application made by James.
This is avalaible from Download section. It is a MUST have :)

The tools do practically the same thing.
My tool takes it a step farther where it verifies your DB before and after using VDJ. It will also repair the DB if it discovers the usual missing end tag </VirtualDJ Database>
James' tool is good as well and if people wish to use it then it is a viable choice.

cstoll, I downloaded your tool and tried playing about with my database, i.e. I corrupted it - but the tool did not pick up on it. I removed the song closing tag and the tool proceeded to open VirtualDJ which then gave me an error. Does your tool do an actual database repair or does it replace the corrupt database with a previously known working one?

My tool only makes a backup each time you start it (it then starts VDJ) While c's app does a compare (a good idea)
Just an FYI: I'm in the testing phase of the 2.0 version of my app. It backups up the playlists and all xml files to a user defined location (the 1.0 app saves the files to the same location) AND it makes a specific backup each time of the user database XML file. Just in case....
Sorry about your issue. Hopefully in a future release of VDJ they will think about a backup of this file.
