Topic: Sony MDR-V700 and Sony MDR-Z700 DON'T GET RIPPED OFF

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi, I got V700DJ model for 2 years almost, and I must say they're wonderful. 2 days ago, a friend of mine asked me to get Z700 from eBay for him since they were so cheap and people said they were the same as V700.

All I can say is that they're crap, they sound awful like if it's mids were a bit lower and bass it's harder to hear. I tested them today and I made photos showing both of them, they really look alike but I think it's a fake model but with the brand of Sony on it, or a really good looking imitation.

When I put a photo with both of them, the left one is the Z700 and the one on the right is the original V700

Both boxes, Z700 is much smaller

Both boxes sides (No Sony logo on the Z700 box)

On my headphones the back side is written in French, in Z700 is on Chinese or Japanese

Both headphones

Both headphones headbands

Both plugs (Sony's products always had a green line on the plug in every product, I mean, I had TVs, cassetes and another headphones from Sony and that line is always green)

V700 Earcup (it's like more open)

Z700 Earcup (it's like more closed, also that material is not as nice as V700, plus, notice those holes that apeared thanks to the flash)

Z700 (this one is so hard to see)

V700 (this one is so hard to see)

I think there's no more to tell, I was just a bit annoyed when I saw this and I decided to look for info on the Internet... I don't think Sony would make this crap.

So for all of you, there are sellers on eBay which make Z700 look like real V700 for really high prices, and seems only one of them sells Z700 as they are really (9€).

Yeah, it's a industry standard, but look at this warning from DjDeals:
"WARNING!!!

OUR FORUM MEMBERS & CUSTOMERS NOT RECOMMEND THE SONY MDR-V700 HEADPHONES. THEY ARE THE MOST LIKELY TO BREAK OUT OF ALL OF THE HEADPHONE BRANDS THAT ARE AVAILABLE.

THE BEST DJ HEADPHONES YOU CAN BUY ARE THE ULTRASONE DJ1 AND THE ULTRASONE DJ1 PRO.

THE ULTRASONE DJ1 HEADPHONES ARE ONLY $34 MORE THAN THE SONY MDR-V700 & HAVE A 2 YEAR WARRANTY, WHEREAS THE SONY'S HAVE A 90 DAY WARRANTY."

So you must be very lucky for 2 years :)

Hehe, yes I know that they break, but I guess it's like everything, treat them with care and they won't break up, they get to break when they seem to have scratches, mine doesn't have any and works great.

I contacted Sony about the Z700, they say it's a Japanese model, all I can say is that the one I bought for my friend sounds bad, it really seems to be a fake.

It is possible it is a fake, everything has been copied these days.

I'll go to a Sony Gallery store so they can tell me if it's fake or not I'll post back here when I have news, it got me so angry to find out these fake models are being sold for like 80 $ or more

Z700 really exists, I went to Sony Gallery, althought their warranty is not valid here. They told me that is probably they open them and change the speakers and things like that.

the mdr-v700 have a great quality of sound, but very poor quality of material, i have one as well and the inside cable that cross from on side to the other have broke twice, and also the plastic material is very poor.

They are cleaver for sure ;)
