Topic: How do I rip my entire cd collection on to Virtual Dj?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi everyone, I recently installed virtualdj 3.4 on my new laptop. I'm new to this program so I need instruction on how to rip my music on to it..The trouble I'm having is that I have already ripped half of my cd collection on the windows program. I titled every song, artist and album but when I hd scan it on my local database it reads the songs that came with the laptop correctly with name but when I play the tracks I recorded, they read like this 02 track, 03 track etc. My point is that I already titled eveything but virtual dj does not read them. I realize I might have done something wrong. Do I have to rip all my music over again in a different file, program so that virtual dj can read it or do I still have to download something? What Is the best and easiest way to do this? Please help...Thanks

Sounds like you haven't created any ID3 tags. What software did you use to rip the CDs? I use iTunes myself but there's loads on the market. But for now you should look into software that edits ID3 tags. Just google for it, it should be easy to find a decent one (try searching in google for "The Godfather" +mp3, you should come across a handy little program for organizing your colection)

SecretSoul, Thanks for your reply......I ripped my cds on the Windows media player which are now under "library" on windows. A friend of mine says VirtualDj doesn't read the files because they are under windows media audio files and that I need to mp3 them. I feel like doing eveything again.....How are ID3 tags created? Thanx for your time.

i use audiograbber and free cd ripper. they have a database for almost every cd so you don't have too put in all the tracks. works fine and is very quick.have ripped my entire cd collection in a few days (ca 400 cd's).

I use musicmatch, it works excellent for me great sound quality and easy to use.

Hi,
If I understood your problem, you should create the correct ID3 tag.
For this purpose I use tag&rename (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm).

To build the id3 tags with no efforts, simply flatten your filesystem (icon named "search sub directories") and the select the tab "Get Tags from Filename". just set up the mask and click on "Write Tags".
I'm not sure which version of tag is wriiten (I mean ID3V1 or V2), but once one of them is set, you simply need to check all the mp3s and select the option "mp3 tag sunchronization wizard" to copy your data into the missing tag version.

Without any efforts.

Hope it helps.

I also use windows media player to rip tunes from cd's, and have no problems playing them on virtual dj.

Rip the tunes into a folder called 'Music' or whatever, and then when you go to play them on VDJ, set your 'Music' folder as a favourite as opposed to the music folder that's already there. This way the folder will show on your desktop and when you click it, all your tunes will be there.

But before you open VDJ, go into the music folder in your system, right click on any one of the music files you have just ripped, and click on 'Open with...' and change the program it uses to Virtual DJ.

I had exactly the same problem about a year ago when I started using the program and tried alot of different things to fix the problem but managed to sort it. Check out this post

Hope you get it sorted. Cheers and keep spinnin'...:o)
