Topic: Real time stem separation coming to Denon Prime 4 plus (allegedly} - Page: 1
Rumours abound at the moment.

It either has one hell of a processor or the stems will be meh.

Be interesting to see how it's implemented.

Otherwise the replacement after all this time appears to only have a different look and an Amazon music DRM chip.

I just don't see it happening, I mean I'm all for it but I just don't see the power being there.

Well me neither. Unless it's a precompute done in the Engine software but that would mean larger files sizes and it could be done for all the units.

In all fairness the Mac M1 chip calculates a 3 minute song in about 15 seconds so they could have something like that embedded instead of the current chip which is pretty much at it's limit.

It does say standalone, but Denon have used that phrase before when it hasn't actually been....

But no computer required and instantly. Hmmm.

I have a feeling itll be something youll have to do in the Engine Desktop and then when you move those files over to a USB stick/external drive the Engine OS can read and separate them....

But we'll have to wait and see. Im here for it tho :-p

As there are no dedicated buttons/knobs available, maybe it's done via the FX section?

Of course, the owners of previous gen Prime units will be screaming blue murder and asking why they can't have the new toy.

But the thing is that Denon did say older units would be supported with the latest features and they have sort of done that so far. Wheels starting to fall off the bus now though.

Also worthy of note is that the newly developed FX are only for Denon units and not Numark which muddies the waters even more between the product ranges.

Also the new FX seem to ve available on the SC players but the x1800/1850 have been left in the cold.

Interesting times ahesd for InMusic. They have created this mess themselves.

It's going to be pre computed I bet

Many ARM based SoCs nowadays have GPUs. So real-time stems is definitely possible.

I doubt, though, that they will be able to make something as good as our beloved stems 2.0. It will probably sound like Algoriddim or Rekordbox.

I find it quite funny how about 4 years ago everyone was deserting DJ software and those "unreliable" laptops to go standalone.

Turns out the journey for many wasn't too good due to stability of those units and the software on them.

Along comes stems and now suddenly DJ software is back on top and all the standalone people are moaning because they can't have stems.

It's a strange old world.

Ok so it doesn't sound the best but I really only use the vocals or instrumental anyways. I think alot of it is going to boil down to the quality of the track your using because even with VDJ not EVERY track sounds the best.

I'm here for it!!

I have tried the VDJ stems on many different tracks and I can only find the odd one they don't sound good on .... for example Cher Believe where the AI struggles to differentiate between instrumental and vocals as they're synthesized.

Both the examples in the Phil Morse and Mojaxx demos are less than stellar. Be interesting to see what happens by the time the update is released.

it sounds absolutely horrible

As clearly stated by Mojaxx, this is a very early alpha version. Not finshed product. Just proof of concept.

IMO it would be beneficial to everyone if the various products saved stems to a file format which could be read by any/all of the products. So for example stems saved by VDJ could be decoded and played back by Denon hardware.

Agreed but then people could just have the free version or VDJ, extract the stems then use them elsewhere.

Remember the Denon thing is supposed to be entirely standalone. Alpha or not it's not great. Why even announce it if the proof of concept is so bad?

Because it leaked (also mentioned in the video).

Yeah, this is a BETA but I have hopes that it'll get better, not sure how much better it can get but I'm sure it will sound better after the release.

Now let's hope I won't have to buy the 6000m's because from everything I've watched and heard my 5000m's have the same internals.... Thats if they even make it available for those types of standalone units.

It's Prime 4 plus only apparently

For the initial release of the beta, because they want to keep the test group small (so says Phil in his video).
