Topic: All in one DJ controller with Virtual DJ: Your thoughts
As many of us are aware manufactures seem to be shifting towards making all in one DJ controllers such as Denon, Pioneer and now Numark have started with their mixstream series . So i was wondering Do you think sometime in the future we may see an all in one controller but with Virtual Dj onboard ?

I'm pretty sure if memory serves me correctly there was that reloop touch but i don't think that took off very well as we never had another Virtual DJ all in one controller since then

touch wasn't sw embedded, it was a controller with touchscreen, that was a 2nd screen to the laptop. The majority of the processing was the laptop.

no embedded system mirrors what the SW version does, the deeper database management always needs a machine.

personal opinion here;

moore's law is about finished so further gains in processing power is parallelisation and efficiencies. And I can't see a controller with a high end gfx card installed being a thing.

Can you dj with an embedded system? sure
but you can't do everything that can be done with a machine connected.
It wouldn't be vdj, it would be a stripped back version. and the development speed would be A LOT slower.

One of vdj's strengths is flexibility, and that flexibility comes from having a computer there.
What other creative industry has said "computers, nah don't need them" ?

I understand why all in one would be attractive, but it's a 2008 idea, machines have got a lot more power and are a lot more reliable since then. Plus the game has changed for a lot of dj's, sure a lot still; turn up, rack up, and rock out. But streaming, dj is vj, social media being part of the product is a reality for many djs now.

First glance you might think "no machine, great" but it would mean you can't do this thing or that thing, or maybe you could but you'd need a machine actually do it, then I'd question "is it worth it? a more expensive device that is less capable and some cases you'd still need a machine." [plus you'd still need a home machine for housekeeping]

I've seen some pretty tidy vdj setups with NUCs, you don't even see there's a machine there, just controller with its touch screen.
some don't even have a mouse or keyboard, it looks stand alone but it has machine power.
I made things for a few users to get the machine to do machine things from the device.

I can't see Atomix going the embedded way, but I don't know either way.
