Topic: Filter folder only unique songs?
Is it possible to only show up with one song?
I have several subfolders with the same songs in them. when i filter the folder AND SUBFOLDERS one song shows up several times. I was wondering if there is an option in the setting that makes a song (with same filename and date) only show up once in the filter folder. That would make scrolling a lot easier.

I will add a print screen theat probably explains it.

No, it's not possible.
It's not the same file appearing many times. It's 4 copies of the same file, which means it's 4 different files.

While I understand what you want, there's a problem:
In case the program could "group" the 4 files in one entry on the browser, and you decide to "load" (or perform ANY operation) on that entry, what should the software do ?
Which of the 4 files should it load ?
For which file should it read info ?
The files "are the same" for you, but each copy effectively holds it's own info on the database (such as playcount / last played / hotcues e.t.c.)

As a personal advise, I would suggest to use a different method to achieve what you want without copying the same file(s) several times.

Hi PhantomDeejay, thanks for your suggestions.
Are you sure that VDJ makes 4 copies of the same file?
I was in the understanding that VDJ does not make a copy of the audio file, but maybe only a databasefile which links tot the specific audio file in my database. That databasefile (sort of link) in that particular virtual (sub)folder cabn also be moved which changes the mapping to the original file.
Therefore i would guess that it is not that hard to only show 1 link to an audiofile in stead of 4. But you confirm that it is not possible. Than i have to live with that and maybe i am the only one who uses VDJ in this way.

I fell in love with VDJ just because ONE audiofile can be in more folders (just like playlists). You make me very confused;)

PhantomDeejay's advice is always amazing.

To maybe see where each of the actual files are located, you could temporarily add a "File Path" column, and also the "File Name" column in your browser.

1) Would love to see a screen shot of the same filter results, with "File Path" and "File Name" columns visible.

2) and also a screenshot of the actual filter you are using, with its scope showing
(filter editor's, advanced box, checked, to show scope)

You should mention in your original post that you referred to "Virtual Folders" and subfolders.
From your wording, I thought you meant physical folders/subfolders.

It is true that VirtualDJ doesn't make copies of the files.
Also if the same file is placed inside multiple "Virtual subfolders" then using recurse should only show the file once.
The behavior you describe above is happening only with Filter Folders when the scope is set as "Folder (Recursive)"
Currently there's no way to "fix" that, however I guess it could be possible to include an option on a future update since indeed the file is unique (and not a copy of the same file as I've mistakenly understood)

So, for now (depending on your needs) try to use "Recurse" instead if possible.

Thanks!
ad 1) I do not have to make a screenshot, because i know these are the same files. You can also see the most right colom with bestanddatum (=filedate in dutch), that also does the trick, they are exactly the same. I know that is not the issue. My goal was to only to see one song (1 unique filename of filedate) when i want results of songs within bpm and key range. I did not find a way and do not understand what Recurse means in filter folder.

Ad 2) i added below

SOmetimes it is difficult to explain myself in english and i see where i put you on the wrong feet. I indeed mentioned filename. But in the picture you cabn see that i meant a filter folder within a folder and i included all the subfolders in my filter search.
Now I am figuring out what you mean by Recurse and how to use in filterfolders.

The Advanced Box, (in your photo "Geavanceerd") will show the scope drop-down menu, containing "Folder(recursive)" .

Your pic you posted, did not have that box checked yet. To see how you had your filter folder set.

Almost have it resolved, fingers crossed !

PS
I do not show duplicates when scope is set to "Database" also .. and depends what you wish to show in your filter folder

This is the screenshot.

I know the difference between database and virtual folders. I deliberately select virtual folder and subfolders. If i select database then i will get suggestions from my whole database (also 90's 00's techno ,etc), but i only need the ones in my 80's folder and subfolders. If i select database then in de filter selection i can do nothing with virtual folder.
Maybe only if i tag all the tracks with 80's en make a selection on that will do the trick, but that would make it more complicated.
