Topic: Denon SC Live 4 it's freezing! - Page: 1
Hello, I would need your help. After about half an hour of playing, it turns off the sound, or the VDJ gets stuck (version b 7341). My laptop is a quality Asus Zenbook with an Nvidia graphics card. The driver for the Denon SC Live 4 (bought a few days ago) is installed. Asio on the value of 512. Can someone advise me where the problem might be? Thank you!

Seems that for some reason you were out of resources (memory probably) or some overheating issue.
If you can reproduce at home, have Task Manager opened and observe RAM and CPU when the freeze occurs.

There is also a chance of a brief USB disconnection. In this case you can enable CreateMidiLog from Options of VDJ and see if anything is reported in Log Report.txt file (in /Documents/VirtualDJ folder)

Sorry for late reply.

My best guess would be the USB cable.
Second guess is some other application could try to take control over the sound card, so i would make sure the Denon sound card is not the default playback device when connected.

I've had the same issue. Laptop is high spec gaming laptop. Nvidia graphics card rtx 3070 everything updated. The default setting is the Denon asio driver. I've changed all cables. Question
Could I use the wasapi sound card for Denon which comes up as an option.

I've been using an old skin 2021 one

Hello guys. I’m Havant the same exact problem!! And it’s horrible! Just bought my PRO license from virtual dj, installed the latest version, and my Denon Sc Live 4 is just new! I had that issue at home when testing and then when I was at a gig live, it was happening constantly!! I had to turn my computer off and play standalone! Like everyone is saying, I have all original cables, viewed all options, even turned off stems, but my computer never gave me problems, it’s an i7 with 16gb of ram, I check the cpu usage and it’s always low. There’s no explanation but it’s definitely a huge problem. And since with using standalone there’s no problem, it can only be the virtual dj program. This is a major problem since I always worked with virtual dj and bought this controller because it worked with virtual dj! Now I have the sound freezing (and virtual dj) for like 4-5 seconds and then it just continues playing. But it was constantly happening. Like 5 to 5 minutes. I can’t have this playing live! Please someone who understand this has to help me!! 🙏🏻

I'm having the exact same problem and music just stopping for no reason in the middle of a packed dance floor is a horrible experience . I've never had this problem til using this mixer . I hope VDJ can figure this out .

Have a look on the Denon forum. Seems others are having the same issue with Prime 4 units too.

https://community.enginedj.com/t/asio-driver/49260

I bought a new top end Lenovo gaming machine and the music was randomly stopping during sets with my MCX8000. I thought it might be the Denon Asio driver compatibility (it's not been updated since 2015) and Windows 11 as the very same driver works perfectly on my C940 with Windows 10 and has done so for years. Strangely it was doing the same on WASAPI as well so that maybe rules out the ASIO driver. I ended up getting a refund on the laptop.

Possibly something in Windows 11 maybe caused by an update or just windows 11 itself. Hitting apply in the VDJ sound config started the music again so it seems something was causing the driver to run out of buffer. Nothing obvious even though I spent probably 2 weeks trying to find an answer.

This sort of thing discourages me from getting a new controller and laptop as I can't be done with the hassle. Why don't things just work any more?

Yes it's always heartbreaking when people get a new laptop or controller (so new drivers or new way of using standard drivers) and everything is worse than before

But there is really nothing that can be done about it in VDJ, except making suggestions on what to try changing on your laptop. VDJ simply sits on top of the operating system and drivers on the laptop, and if it's not getting the resources it needs when it needs them, the music will crackle, stutter or stop
There is only the hard way of looking up issues and fixes others have had, and/or patching and optimizing the laptop including the OS, to get it fixed
The only good thing is that you learn something every time, and that it confirms, that you need a pretty high level of computer skills to be a good digital DJ

tbh the unit itself is probably overheating. mine did. all 3. try using a usb 3.0 to ssd like the sandisk 2tb and format it to fat32. update the firmware. and dont keep it in the sun

can you still send it back? some get lucky others dont. tis why i got an rx3 instead. its odd how the denon prime mixers work fine. the prime 4 is like a computer on its own. if you can send it back asap. you could try an old fix and that is to match the fps of the screen output on vdj to that of the prime 4. which i think is different and faster than the xdj which is 30?

or downgrade to an earlier firmware. test things out. and see?

wait do you have the sclive2 driver installed on the same laptop as the prime 4?
not a good idea.

this isnt plugged into a usb hub is it. and if it is. make sure its a good one with its own ad adapter.

change your power plan to high. not balanced and make sure selective usb suspesion is turned off. and disable stems for now. a gtx 1000 series. and my older laptop had issues with them. (save stems for when you get the p4 stable)

unfortunately I can't return it anymore... and the rx3 costs a lot here in Spain.
a speculation has been created with the pioneer products

Both Log Reports we received indicate that the sound card (and probably the Midi device itself) got briefly disconnected and VirtualDJ tried to reconnect to the device.

Most of the times this happens either because some other application tried to get access to the device or/and some bad USB cable/adapter.

I would recommend the following..
1. Try another USB cable and/or a different USB computer socket
2. With the device in Computer mode, open Your OS (Windows or Mac) Sound panel and make sure the built-in sound card of the controller IS NOT the default playback device of the OS , so select the built-in sound card of your computer instead.
