Topic: Does Elgato Stream Deck works With VDJ?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I mean this USB Controller here:
https://www.elgato.com/de/gaming/stream-deck

Actually, the Elgato Stream Deck is just a simple USB controller that extends your keyboard keys on the PC with additional keys.

Everything that can be controlled in software with keyboard shortcuts and macros should work with it.

So in DAW software such as Ableton Live, Reason, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc. it definitely works.

So far I have not found anything about controlling DJ software in the Inet.😔
Think it will work, but I don’t know 100% because VDJ can also be controlled by keyboard and Macros.

Do you mean That will Work With VDJ ?

Would you like to share you Stream Deck profile and VDJ midi mapping profile?

Quick and Simple instructions...

1. Open the Stream Deck app
2. Pick an existing Profile or create a New Profile
3. From the categories on the Right, scroll down to "System"
4. Drag and drop the "Hotkey" command onto an empty button on the Stream Deck.
5. Give it a Title. Example: "Active Deck"
6. Customize the Icon if desired
7. Hotkey Field (Click to assign) or Click the Pull-Down to the right of the field
If you click the empty field, press any single or two-key combo. Example: Press TAB. Your action will reveal what you pressed.
If you click the pull-down, navigate to find the key or combo you want
8. Done! - Launch Virtual DJ - Press Stream Deck Hotkey - Active DJ Deck will change from A to B or B to A.

Example:
Let's say you want to program a button on your Stream Deck that switches the Active Deck between Deck A or Deck B in Virtual DJ. If you look in Virtual DJ under Settings, Mapping, Factory Default, Keyboard... and scroll down the list of keyboard shortcuts to find the TAB mapping (should be all the way at the bottom of the list), you will see the TAB key will perform the following action: "Deck Active Select". You can back out of Settings and if you are actually on the Virtual DJ main screen viewing the decks, Press the TAB key and you will see it toggles which deck is the Active deck. You will simply program Stream Deck to perform the TAB key press (or any of the many Keyboard Shortcuts you find in Virtual DJ - Settings - Mapping).

So, perform Steps 1-7 above from the Stream Deck App, click with the mouse in the Hotkey field, (you should see "Observing keystrokes...") Press the TAB key.

DONE!

NOTE:
Ensure Virtual DJ is running AND in the foreground before pressing your mapped Hotkey button on your Stream Deck! If you don't, pressing your mapped "TAB" button, for example, from your Stream Deck will perform the TAB command on whatever app you have running in foreground. Like, if you have MS Word opened and you press your Stream Deck hotkey, it will send the TAB command to the Word app creating an actual tabbed space within your document wherever your cursor happens to be.

With that in mind, press the newly mapped button on your Stream Deck.
You should see the Active Deck change to inactive and the other deck becomes the Active Deck.

Repeat the above steps for all other Hotkeys you wish to program on your Stream Deck to map the keyboard shortcuts found in the Mapping table in Virtual DJ.

TIP:
If you want to program a single ON/OFF button hotkey on the Stream Deck, you can use the "Hotkey Switch" command from the Stream Deck - System category. This will allow you to map TWO keyboard shortcut mappings to one button. You can assign two different Icon backgrounds to the button for each key press. Press one time, execute first keyboard shortcut... press it again, execute a second keyboard shortcut.

This is just a starter to get someone new to the Elgato Stream Deck introduced to the customization of Stream Deck Hotkey programming as well as the canned default keyboard shortcuts found within Virtual DJ. Things can get even more detailed and complicated both for the Stream Deck with programming macros and within Virtual DJ with scripting if you want to venture further. :)

Hope this information was helpful.
